Judith Barsy Schmidt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2024.
Judy was born in Spokane, Washington in 1943, where her father worked as a construction welder. She grew up in International Falls, Minnesota, with her 4 brothers and sisters. After graduating from High School in Wisconsin she traveled out to California to marry her fiancé' Michael Schmidt in 1961.

Together they raised two children in Southern California, where she was a Bluebird Leader for her daughter and coached her son's Little League team. She even opened her own ceramic store. The family moved to Northern California in 1979. She joined a bowling league and enjoyed many weekend tournaments with her teammates. Judy had a passion for flowers, gardening and birds. She was a talented crafter. She painted, beaded, stamped cards, cross stitched, and spent hours sharing her talents for all things with her grandchildren. More than anything she was a quilter. Her beautiful and elaborate quilts will be cherished by the family.

Judy loved to travel. Together she and Michael traveled down the Amazon River, saw the rain forest in Costa Rica, and visited Norway, Finland, Germany, Croatia and so much more.

Judy is survived by her husband of over 62 years Michael Schmidt Sr., her sister Betty Jo (Barsy) Nelson (Duane), her children Michael Schmidt Jr, (Cindy), and Michelle Schmidt, her cherished grandchildren Anna Schmidt and Christopher Schmidt, as well as many loved nieces and nephews. Judy was proceeded in death by her older brothers Kenneth Barsy and Robert Barsy, as well as her younger brother Dale Barsy. She was the first in her family to live to the age of 80 years! She will be missed.
