In Loving Memory of Judith Mae Bryson (Salvia)

May 9, 1943 - November 16, 2024

Judy Bryson, born in Garfield, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at the age of 81 in Paso Robles, California, after a brave fight with breast cancer. She was the middle daughter of Angelina and Salvatore Salvia of Westwood, New Jersey.

Judy had a knack for making every place she lived feel like home, from New Jersey to Louisiana, Illinois, and Connecticut. She finally settled in Paso Robles, California, where she spent her last few months surrounded by her devoted family.

She was a creative soul, though she might have said otherwise. Judy turned fabric into art as an avid quilter and loved knitting with friends at the library in Simsbury, Connecticut. She found joy in the garden, often trimming hydrangeas to craft beautiful wreaths for loved ones. Her kitchen was filled with the comforting aromas of Italian dishes, especially her famous biscotti and rugelach. While she often downplayed her culinary skills, her cooking was always exceptional. Judy loved reading, traveling, and immersing herself in foreign films and TV shows, continually seeking new experiences. Ever in tune with current trends, Judy's energy made her seem years younger than her age.

Judy's professional career spanned Western Airlines, Kelly Services, Cigna, and Aetna, where she was admired for her hard work and dedication. Beyond her professional achievements, Judy was a friend to all, known for her warmth, humor, and ability to make everyone feel at ease.

Judy's love and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met. Her two children survive her: Christie Cate and her husband, Cliff Cate, of Paso Robles, California; and David Bryson and his wife, Francisca Rojas, of Baltimore, Maryland. Judy was the proud and devoted Noni of Zoe, Torin, Beck, Bryce, and Lucia, cherishing every moment she spent with them and filling their lives with joy. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings: Marcia Mitchell of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and Clifford Salvia of Monroe, Virginia, and their families. Judy's warmth, and humor will be deeply missed by the countless friends she made throughout her rich and fulfilling life.

Her ex-husband predeceased Judy, Jack Bryson, with whom she shared many memorable years, full of love, laughter, and the occasional exasperated eye roll. Together, they raised two wonderful children who became her greatest pride.

Judy's kindness, strength, and creativity touched everyone she met. Her love of life and the joy she shared will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held for Judy and Jack in Chicago the weekend of February 15th 2025, more details will be available in the new year. For questions, please get in touch with Christie at [email protected].

In place of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society in Judy's honor.

Growing up in New Jersey, I always looked up to my beautiful cousins Judy and Marcia. They helped me in so many ways with their kindness. I remember Judy's smile and her laugh and hoped I could be her, lovely and caring.

I met Judy through a mutual friend. Not sure why, or how, but we just clicked. We had daily conversations, usually trying to put the world at peace. Unfortunately we weren't successful. I'm hoping she is in a better position now to help being nearer to the higher powers. She was a true friend, with a great listening ear. Her love for her family was the most important thing to her.

My sweet auntie, was a wonderful, joy to be around. I remember her sweet temperament and her kindness! My first car(was hers), little hand made dolls(she let me play with at her home). She knitted my son a hat that we still have.
