Judith Coffey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 13, 2024.
Judith "Judy" Coffey, age 80, of Long Valley, New Jersey, passed away on February 8, 2024.

Judy was born to Harold and Dorothy Klug on August 23, 1943. Before moving to Long Valley, she was a long-time resident of Livingston, New Jersey. She graduated from Livingston High School in 1961 and went on to raise a family at 29 Swan Road – a special time and place where many fond memories were made.

Judy grew up riding horses: a passion she shared with her stepdaughter, Michelle. Later in life, she went on to enjoy riding on the back of her husband Pat's motorcycle across and over the quiet countryside of Western New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

As a mother, she took tremendous joy visiting her son, Frank, at the University of Florida -- as well as later in California after he settled down in the San Francisco Bay Area. Judy was an avid wine enthusiast and, while she was not able to visit every single winery in Northern California, she certainly tasted her share. She also had a sweet tooth and enjoyed indulging in her favorite treats. Judy will always be remembered for her love of baking and her delicious Christmas cookies.

Judy was a traveler at heart and took many trips with her family. Most memorable of all, she was blessed with an opportunity to connect with her distant relatives in Denmark. It was there, in Tonder, that she met her cousin, Jens Andresen, who gave Judy and Frank a tour of their ancestral village and proudly shared their common family tree, which he had spent the better part of his life meticulously researching back centuries.

Judy spent most of her work life as an Executive Assistant in the Pharmaceutical industry. It was a rewarding career that she enjoyed deeply thanks in large part to the many lifelong friends she made along the way.

She is survived by her husband, Patrick Coffey, Sr.; her son, Frank Caggiano (Stephanie Coram); her stepdaughter, Michelle Feder (Ken); her stepsons, Patrick (Jeannine) Coffey, Jr. and Sean Coffey; her brothers, Ken (Nancy) Klug and Chris (Deborah) Klug; her grandchildren, Jeff (Veronica) Feder, Patrick, Alexa, Mitchell, and Krista Coffey; her niece, Erinn (Dave) Lazzara; nephew, Brian (Angelica) Klug; beloved dog and devoted companion, Coco; and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and dearest grandson, Doug.

Judy was a caring and supportive presence in the lives of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 am at Long Valley Presbyterian Church, 39 Bartley Road, Long Valley, NJ.

It is has been over one year since I lost Judith. She was a terrific worker, confidant and friend. She knew well my life long partner, David, who passed in December 2024. Judith and I would have endless conversations about all the joys and challenges of life. How I miss her and David. For now, I will cherish their memories and know that knowing them was a blessing. I recruited Judith Coffey around 2001 to replace my previous assistant. She quickly became my business partner. Judith took care of every business need, and made sure that my team was well attended. What I did not realize was that she would also become one my dearest friends and confidant. There were countless chats about "this is what's going to happen when you get to be my age..." Exciting talks about her exotic travels with her son, Frank. Wonderful walks through the garden, proudly sharing her prize tomatoes. Enjoying all the barbeques with her husband, Pat, at the helm to make sure the strip steaks were made to perfection. Of course, the famous Christmas cookies that Judith shared with joy.

I shared Judith's passing with her work family, and the sentiment that keeps coming back is how much she was "the glue" that kept us together. This is what Judith was about....a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt.....and a most beloved friend. A life well lived! May Judith rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing!

I will miss my dear sister, Judy. I can't imagine having a more loving, caring, and wonderful sister. Don't think I ever told her how much I love her.....I really regret that. She was precious.
