Anita Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2009.
Anita R. Murphy, 72, of Grove, Oklahoma died at 6:54 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Integris Grove General Hospital in Grove, Oklahoma. She had been in her usual health and death was unexpected. Anita was born November 14, 1936 in Nevada, Missouri to Ira Earl and Zella (Detwiler) Misener. As the only girl in the family, Anita's three brothers often tormented her. Anita graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont, Kansas with the Class of 1955. On June 3, 1956, Anita married the love of her life, Lester L. Murphy in Parsons, Kansas. Anita worked as an IBM Keypunch Operator at Boeing during the 1950's to help put Lester through college. During her early-married life, Anita enjoyed gardening and sewing. She showed her love for her children by sewing many of their clothes. Lester's job took them around Kansas until they retired to Grove in 2007 from Topeka. Anita was a member of the Grand Travelers and the First Christian Church of Grove. She enjoyed bird watching, reading and listening to country music, especially Garth Brooks. She loved to travel and particularly enjoyed cruise ship travel. She and Lester had taken several cruises to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Anita is survived by her husband, Les Murphy of Grove; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Ann Murphy of Topeka, Kansas and Christopher and Paula Murphy of Columbus, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Timothy Morris of Lecompton, Kansas; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Dorothy Misener of Parsons, Kansas and Roy and Darlene Misener of Union, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Luella Misener of Parsons, Kansas; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson. Anita was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Earl Misener on January 7, 2001. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Murphy will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2009 at First Christian Church, 102 W. 4th, Grove, Oklahoma with Dr. Wayne Shaw officiating and Minister Jim Pelley assisting. The family suggests memorials to First Christian Church, PO Box 450327, Grove, Oklahoma 74345 or Ozark Christian College, 1111 N. Main St., Joplin, Missouri 64801. Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home of Grove, Oklahoma is in charge of arrangements. Friends and family may leave on-line condolences on the funeral home website at www.honoringmemories.com.

Dear Les and Family:

We were so sorry and shocked to learn of Anita's death.

When we moved into the neighborhood ten years ago she was the first to welcome us and bring over food many times while we were working on the house. After we moved in you and her were the best neighbors anyone could ask for.

We have been out of town and just learned of her death.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Les & family:

I am very saddened and sorry to hear of Anita's death. I will always remember when I first started attending Town & Country Christian Church, Anita was one of the first to make me feel welcome. She would sit down beside me and just start talking. She made me feel like I belonged; and, she will always have a special place in my memories.

Les, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God bless you all!

Lester Lynn,

We are sorry to hear of Anita's untimely death. I remember the good days from knowing you and Anita at Altamont Grade school and LCCHS. Also our association at Wichita Unversity/State Engineering School.

May God be with you and your family.

Sincerely,

Bob & Leota Young
