Judy Ann Cooksey Mayne

1946-2021

Murray, UT—It is with great sadness that the family of Judy Ann Mayne (née Cooksey) announces that she left this world on March 3, 2021, at the age of 75 years. She unexpectedly collapsed at home that morning and passed away later that afternoon at the hospital. Judy will be remembered for her open and giving heart, her love of teaching and helping children, and her willingness to take on new challenges. She will be missed by her husband and best friend, Charles; her three children, Deryk Mayne (Tara), Mary Elizabeth Mitchell (Ian), and Lydia Mayne (Frank Densborn); her grandchildren, Freddie, Inanna, Tannis, Zachery, DeAnna, and Michael; and her great-grandchildren Maddie, Alex, Ashton, and Lila. Judy will also be remembered by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Gary Steven and Kat Mayne, Jackie and Doug Bloomfield, and Cindy and Wendell Behunin. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Roland Hefner Cooksey and Ruth Elizabeth Stuhr, and both of her brothers, Ronald Cooksey and Jimmie Cooksey.

Judy was born in Sparks, Nevada in 1946. She spent the first twelve years of her life in Whiteface, Texas on her family's cotton farm. The Cooksey family then moved to Tularosa, New Mexico where Judy's Dad and brothers built the family home and the C&C Cafe, where Judy worked cooking, waiting tables, and as a carhop while she finished high school and completed two years of college at the Alamogordo branch of New Mexico State University. She then moved to Las Cruces where she would earn her teaching degree and meet the love of her life, Charles. After they both finished school, they lived in Portland for a few years, where Deryk was born, then they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they raised their family.

Judy was an elementary school teacher at West Kearns Elementary for nearly 30 years. She was known for trying new and fresh techniques in her teaching and for always being the first to sign up to help her school implement a new program. In addition to her own children, thousands of kids and their families were shaped by her guidance and care.

A virtual funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 13, at 12:00pm.

Judy will be interred later that day at the Elysian Burial Gardens in Millcreek, Utah.

I’m sending you all my love and hugs. Charles and Judy were always at our house for Sunday dinner when my mom Jill was alive. It’s sad that we grow older and apart. We are a family forever no matter what we all believe. Again all my love to you all

Charles & family,
Judy will always be remembered for her kind words, her smile, her quiet service to others. She was a faithful daughter of God, who shared her testimony of our Savior in word and example. I will miss her. I hope that you will find comfort in knowing the Plan of Salvation, that you are sealed together with her forever through the temple ordinances, and that you will see her again. You are in my prayers.
