Julia “Julie” Rose Mellor, 95, of New Eagle died with her sons at her side on Friday, October 14, 2022 at the Havencrest Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Monongahela. She was born in West Brownsville, on October 2, 1927 to Thomas and Margaret Mestar Szollosi. Julie grew up in Elrama.
A lifetime of service and a beautiful smile would describe Julie. If the Service Industry wanted a poster child, she would have been a great choice.
As a young girl, she shopped for groceries for her family as well as helping around the house. This service to her family at Elrama continued through 2007 when her brother, John, died.
During a span of 40 years, she only missed visiting the Elrama house for about eight weeks. As a teen, she worked at the grocery store and drugstore in Elrama.
She graduated from Clairton High School in 1945, riding the train to Clairton early in the morning before most classmates were up and returning around dinnertime, long after classmates were home.
She met her future husband, William “Speed” Mellor, at the roller rink and got married in 1949. Besides managing the two households, she was devoted to her two sons William (Bill) Jr. and Terry.
After over 20 years away from it, Julie and Speed resumed roller skating. Other hobbies included bowling, biking, bingo, taking walks, and dining with friends. She was also a great cook and baker, known for her "gobs". She was also known for her great memory, especially names and faces.
In 1973, she had the adventure of her lifetime when she and her sister, Margaret Douglas, visited relatives in Hungary. Years later, Julie was happy and excited to host relatives visiting from Hungary in 2006.
Julie had strong opinions and was fiercely loyal to her family. She loved her husband, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren (whom she loved to spoil) and great grandchildren, along with her parents, siblings, and dogs throughout the years. They were all blessed by her generosity and lifetime of service. They all witnessed the beautiful smile she had until the end.
She is survived by her two sons, William R. Mellor, Jr. of Stow, Ohio and Terry J. (Beth) Mellor of Whitehall; three grandchildren, Sean, Miranda, and Eric Mellor; five great grandchildren, Austin, Jayden, Trenton, Declan and Wesley Mellor; three brothers, Tom Sollosi of New Eagle, Mike Sollosi of McKeesport, and Steve Sollosi of Elrama.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Speed” Mellor, who died November 20, 2008; daughter-in-law, Paula June Mellor; sister, Margaret Douglas Lehrman; brother, John Sollosi.
At the request of the family, services for Julie were private. Interment was in Monongahela Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Frye Funeral Home Inc.

MY FAMILY ALWAYS LOOKED FORWARD TO VISITING WITH AUNT JULIE when we came to Pa to visit with family. She was a great hostess and always made us feel most welcome. Her absence will be felt by all of us. Sons Terry and Bill were dedicated to her care and comfort in her declining years. They are exceptionally dedicated and caring sons and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to them and their loved ones .
