To a friend, Anthropology colleague, fellow traveler, and lover of adventure, I share her love for all these things which she embraced with enthusiasm. In general, she embraced life with enthusiasm.

I first knew Julia as a sorority sister at Hanover College. My memories are breakfast with her at an Atlanta restaurant. Then my husband and I went to Peru and on the way back we went to Ecuador and stayed in Cuenca for a week spending incredible moments with Julia. I speak Spanish so we visited with her friends and she took us everywhere. She knew vendors in the marketplace and she found a lady there to spin alpaca fur I had into yarn for me then she brought the leftover fur to Atlanta and mailed more yarn to me. I later got mouth cancer and she sent me 2 dozen beautiful red roses on several occasions. I loved hearing her stories about living in exotic places. She was so full of energy it is hard to believe she is gone. Such a loss.

It was wonderful working with Julia in Study Abroad at Georgia Perimeter College. She was a favorite with our students. My condolences to her family, she will be missed.
