Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 18, 2003.
BARBER _ Julianne (Berube) (1949-2003) Julianne (Jools) passed away at Peace Arch Hospital on December 16th, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Julianne was born July 15th, 1949, in Montreal. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ken Berube, and cherished sons, Lucas and Daniel. She is also survived by her mother Margaret Barber, and sisters, Bette Cox and Tina (Roy) Klymchuk; nephew Spencer and niece Laura; father-in-law Arthur Berube of St. Catharines, Ontario. Predeceased by her father Earle and mother-in-law Adele. Her early years were spent in Quebec, Manitoba, and Ontario. She graduated from U.B.C. with a B.A., then took her teacher training in Ottawa. Desiring to return to the westcoast that she dearly loved, she began her teaching career in Richmond. Julianne then completed her Masters of Education and transferred to Surrey as a school counsellor. After her illness forced her to leave the school system, she turned her creative energies to quilting, at which she became very accomplished. Julianne was an active volunteer in the Delta community with her son's schools and activities, and volunteered as well as fundraised for the Canadian Cancer Society. She was an active member of the Westcoast Dharma Society and attended many of their wonderful retreats. Julianne treasured the tremendous outpouring of love and support from her family and friends throughout her life, especially the last four years of her illness. Special thanks to the doctors and staff at the B.C. Cancer Agency, Peace Arch Hospital, Delta Hospice and Homecare and Dr. Charles King. Additional thanks to our friends at the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. for all your support. A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, December 20th, at Crescent United Church, (2756-127th St.) Surrey, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Breast Cancer Research at the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
