Julie Rebecca Culver, 33, of Morriston, Florida, slipped into the presence of her Heavenly Father on June 25, 2010. She was the beloved daughter of Virgil & Jan Culver of Starkville, MS, the cherished sister of her siblings, Rachel, Philip & Karen, and the devoted aunt of Andrew, Katie, Anna, Jonathan, Paul, William & Sally. For the past ten years, Julie made her home in Florida where she lived with her two best friends, Julia Metts & her brother, Will, and with Jennifer & Justin, two children she loved as her own. Julie was born in Opelika, Alabama just before moving with her family to Knoxville, Tennessee and later to Memphis, Tennessee. In 1985, they moved to Starkville, Mississippi where Julie was home-schooled and had many friends in the Starkville Christian Home Educators association and also worked at the Starkville Public library. She continued her studies at Belhaven College in Jackson, MS, earning a BA in English. She then pursued a Masters of English at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, where she also worked in residence life. Upon receiving her degrees, she taught English and Drama at Robinson High in Tampa, Florida for six years before taking a position at Citrus High in Inverness, FL, where she taught for the last four years. She was a well-respected and talented teacher who challenged each student to reach their full potential. She was known for her passion for teaching and the compassionate and selfless way she served others. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Art & Jean Culver and Alton & Ruth Carroll and her Uncle Danny Southworth. She is survived by her parents, Virgil and Jan Culver of Starkville, MS, her sisters, Rachel Allen (Mike) and Karen Culver of Starkville, her brother, Philip Culver (Brandy) of Grand Bay, Alabama, her nephews & nieces and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, coworkers and students. Services will be Thursday, July 1st, 11:00 am, at Calvary Baptist Church, Starkville, with Reverends Bob Waites and Donald Buckner officiating. Burial will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 30th, from 5:00–7:00 pm at Welch Funeral Home.
