Julie Summers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 21 to Apr. 22, 2023.
Julie Ann Summers, 43, entered into eternal rest on the evening of Tuesday April 18, 2023 after a 2 1/2 year battle with breast cancer. Arrangements are by Simplicity: Lowcountry, 218 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC on the morning of Saturday April 22, 2023. Viewing is at 9:00am with a Memorial Mass immediately following at 10:00am. Father Joseph McDonald of Saint Bonaventure Catholic Church is presiding. All are welcome to pay their respects and to celebrate a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in her name to Susan G. Komen, the American Cancer Society, or to Alala.

Julie was born November 21, 1979 in the Charleston Naval Hospital, North Charleston, SC to Edgardo "Eddie" Yambao, Sr. and Carol (Desjardins) Yambao. She was raised primarily in Goose Creek, SC along with her big sister, Christina, and her little brother, Eddie, Jr. Julie graduated from Stratford High School and attended Trident Technical College.

Julie married her spouse, Lindsey, on March 1, 2003. In 20 years of marriage, they raised two beautiful sons, Benjamin, 20, and Nathan, 12. She worked hard at Northwoods Mall for over 20 years to support her family, first at Cajun Cafe and China Max, and for the past 12 years at Auntie Anne's. Her customers and co-workers alike will miss her positive attitude, her sweet demeanor, and her infectious smile.

Her biggest passions in life were reading, watching Hallmark movies and crime dramas, and sharing recipes. She enjoyed selling and trading Scentsy products, and purchasing LuLaRoe clothing and stylish nail products, making so many friends along the way.

Her biggest joy in life, though, was spending time with children and her family. Julie loved being a good mommy to Ben and Nathan. She was proud of seeing Ben graduate high school, was absolutely beaming seeing him graduate from Air Force BMT, and never tired of his attempts at making her laugh. Raising a Special Needs child like Nathan presents a different set of challenges, but she never wavered from them. She giggled when Nathan was named a Terrific Kid and his minder and Assistant Principal had to keep him from running off stage. It never got old to her seeing his excitement as he got on the bus to school every morning, or that boisterous way he would enter a room by announcing his presence and waving at everyone. Seeing Ben surprise us by coming home for Christmas in 2022 brought a huge smile to her face and a warm, "Oh nice!! Nice surprise." Seeing Nathan jump up and down and dance with everyone at the family Christmas gathering was an extra special memory for her.

Julie was diagnosed with cancer in November 2020, but the illness never defined her. She got her positive outlook, grit, and determination from her Mom, who was also going through her own bout of cancer at the same time. Throughout the ordeal, she never once complained or felt self-pity. Her mother, her spouse, and her big sister made sure she always had the encouragement and support she needed to get through her treatments. And she always did it with a bright smile on her face. In the end, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family members and closest friends.

The love and support she received in her last few weeks was overwhelming. In addition to her family, she had so, so many friends who were moved by her kind nature, positive attitude, and that special grin of hers. Old teachers and classmates she hadn't seen for years reached out to her parents and spouse. In the end, no one could say anything negative about her. To know her was to love her.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Julia and Alfredo Yambao of the Philippines; and Robert Desjardins and Josephine Desjardins of Connecticut.

She is survived by her spouse, Lindsey and sons, Ben and Nathan, of Ladson, SC; her parents, Carol and Eddie Yambao of Goose Creek, SC; her sister Christina (Brice) Goode of Summerville; her brother, Eddie (Fran) Yambao, Jr. of Hanahan, SC; eight nephews and five nieces.

Honorary pallbearers are Benjamin Summers, Nathan Summers, Eddie Yambao, Jr., Eddie Yambao III, Sammy Palmer, and Racenil Yambao.

It was such a pleasure being Nathan´s bus driver for a few years when he was younger! Julie was always there waiting on him with the stroller with the biggest smile on her face! After I relocated to Michigan, I kept in touch with Julie via Facebook and ordered Scentsy, shared recipes, and jokes. Was completely devastated when she shared her diagnosis, but so proud of the way she handled her treatments and still balanced her family and work!
To Lindsey, Ben and Nathan, I extend my deepest sympathy and pray that you navigate this new path in life with as much ease as possible. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers!
Rest well sweet Julie! See you in the blink of an eye!
