Juliette Sharpe-Mamby Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2022.
Juliette Joyce Sharpe-Mamby was born on May 13, 1938 at the old Harlem Hospital, on 5th Avenue in New York City. She was the only child of the late Willie Purcell Sharpe and Pearl Hewlett - Sharpe. A few months after her birth the family relocated from the Monterey building at 351 West 114th street in Harlem to 315 West 115th street where she resided as a child and in early adult life.

She met and married her future husband Marcus Mamby (deceased) at 315 W 115th Street. Both families resided on the second floor of that building. Juliette would jokingly state that that they were married twice, once when they were in a play when she had to play the part of his wife and later when they were both adults. This union produced two daughters Crystal and Melissa.

She attended George Washington High School on Audubon Ave. After graduation she enrolled in Hunter college and graduated with a Bachelors degree. She earned a Masters degree in Physical Therapy from Columbia University. She interned at Willowbrook State School and on completion of her internship was employed by NYC Health and Hospital Cooperation at the former Morrisania hospital. After its closure Juliette was employed with the New York State Department of health in various positions including but not limited to Physical Therapist at Sunmount Developmental Center in Tupper Lake NY, Auditor for DDS facilities working out of Albany NY; Physical Therapist at the NYS Veterans Home in St. Albans , Queens: Nursing Home auditor and auditor for omh, auditing residential and clinic settings.

She loved traveling and did so when she could. After her retirement she accomplished her dream vacation a 6 months trip around the world which she did with her travel companion Ms. Gloria Robinson.

Juliette was kind, loving , generous and knowledgeable. Her friends and acquaintances are diverse thus fostering her spirit of adventure and knowledge of food from around the world. When the opportunity presented itself, she was always willing to try some thing new.

She was a faithful and dedicated member of the Abyssinian Baptist Church. She loved attending church and praising the Lord. On September 15, 2022 the Lord called his faithful servant home. Preceded in death by her husband Marcus Mamby she Leaves to cherish her memory her children Crystal and Melissa and a host of relatives and friends. We are comforted knowing Juliette is with the Lord but we cannot deny she will be dearly missed.

Dear Crystal and Melissa, I am just learning of Julie's passing, having been out of touch for many years with this wonderful and beautiful woman and friend. I don't know if you remember me- as I also worked at Sunmount, as a speech therapist (my last name was Corneau then), but I do remember meeting you both on several occasions. Julie was a dedicated therapist, and wonderful friend. I have thought of her often over the years but did not know how to contact her. Please accept my delayed condolences. I would love to hear from either of you; my email is [email protected]
Most sincerely, Patty

I did not personally know Judy, however, I would always acknowledge her and her friendly smile as I ushered. While at Pastor Butts Homegoing, I lifted up the top of the Ushers desk to retrieve pen and paper, grabbed and saw the Program celebrating Judy's life. I did not know she had passed. The past 2/1/2 years since covid-19 struck, we lost many members from natural causes or covid -19. Many I did not know by name, but, by their faces. She was always warm and pleasant.
