Julio Roque Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 2, 2017.
Julio (Rocky) Roque Jr. passed away peacefully May 2, 2017, after a long, courageous journey with Dementia. While the road was long, he always found a way to make those around him smile, with that twinkle in his eye. A true clown at heart. He was born in New York City, December 12, 1932, where he lived until he was 17, and then joined the United States Air Force. He served for 22 years, and with multiple assignments in Europe, the first being England, and where he met his wonderful, Welsh wife of 49 years, Sylvia Roque Davies, of Flint, Wales, and where they started their family. After retirement from the United States Air Force, he settled in Denison, Texas, and went to work for Levis Strauss and Co., moving from Denison to Brownsville, Texas and then settling in San Antonio, Texas. He served as Human Resources Director for Levi Strauss and Co. in San Antonio where he made hundreds of friends and served the community in many aspects. He later worked in real estate for several years in the San Antonio area. Before retiring yet a third time, Julio worked for Wackenhut Security, and last but not least, Records Consultants, Inc. (RCI), traveling to what seemed to be every town in Texas. Rocky was a Freemason, member of Alamo Masonic Lodge, and Shriner, member of the Alzafar Temple. He was a dedicated and loyal member of the Nemnuf clown unit, where he served as President in 1987. Rocky received many awards and honors for his contribution to the unit over the years, helping with skits, floats, and competitions. He took such pride in his work with the Shriners. He also was a member of the British Sporting Club, helping with fundraising, Folklife Festival, and skits for different occasions. He loved the British people, culture, and friends he made along the way. He truly lived to make those around him smile. He loved many sports including softball, football, fishing, and archery- which he was North Texas Champion in the late 1960's. After being stationed in Germany, Rocky competed and placed in the European Championship and later returned to San Antonio to win gold in the Senior Olympics. He also loved watching his granddaughters play soccer. Rock loved a good time with his friends and family and of course Sylvia was always keeping him in line. He was very dedicated to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. Julio was preceded in death by his loving wife Sylvia, parents, Julio Roque Sr and Isabel (Ponce) Roque, and sister, Norma (Roque) Peck. He is survived by his sons, Michael (Becky) Southlake, TX, Christian, Austin, TX, and daughter: Julie Roque Fareri (Kevin). Brother: Louis (Sherry) Roque, Lander, Wy. Grand Children: Christina, and Stephanie Fareri; Step Grandson: Colby (Katie) Rose, Houston, TX. Step Great Grandchildren: Lincoln and Monroe Rose, Houston, TX. Step Granddaughter: Lyndsay Rose, Madrid, Spain. Nieces and nephews: Pam Roque, Lisa Roque and Christopher Roque, Poughkeepsie, NY., Norma Bermudez , Greenwich Village, NY. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, May 22nd at Porter Loring North Mortuary 2102 North 1604 E. San Antonio, Texas 78232. Burial with follow service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio, Texas 78209.
