June Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2010.
WEST COLUMBIA - June was taken home by her Heavenly Father and reunited with her beloved husband, William, on April 20, 2010, after a long illness. A longtime Columbia resident, June was born in Columbia, July 23, 1926. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1715 Bull Street on Friday April 23, 2010, at 3 p.m. with visitation immediately following. The Rev. Dr. Tony Metze and the Rev. Yu Fong Chong, chaplin at Agape Senior Care, will be officiating. A private family burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel in Irmo, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Music Fund, 1715 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201-2581.

June was predeceased by her loving husband, William Martin Davis, her parents, Tom and Estelle Nichols, daughter, Billie Griffin, and sister, Betty Cox. She is survived by a daughter, Mary "Bunny" Davis (Joe Truzzolino), a son-in-law, Jack Griffin (Tasha), grandchildren, Bill Griffin, Christie Griffin, Jim Griffin, Amy Humphries (David), Chip Stubbs (Michael Levey), Dawn Fairey, and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Humphries. These grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she loved each one unconditionally. She is also survived by a niece, Susan Cox of Huntsville, Ala., and Ron and Michael Cox, both of Sacramento, Calif.

June was in her glory as a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, Mimi and "Bahama Mama" who, in her later years, enjoyed travelling extensively - especially cruises! - from Hawaii to London and beyond. A fun-loving member of the Red Hat Society, she took frequent trips with "the ladies" and with church groups. Anyone who knew her can attest that beyond her family and travel, her favorite activity was shopping, especially at Hamrick's, where the employees knew her by name.

June was a devoted friend to all who knew her and gave tirelessly of herself to others. When anyone visited her at Agape CCU, she always wanted to share whatever she had with them, offering them something to eat, especially ice cream, Little Debbie cakes, chocolates or Cokes. Her spirit of giving began with her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, always aspiring to live her life according to His will. She was one of the original charter members of Rosewood Baptist Church, where she and William were married in 1944.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the loving care mother received from the dedicated staff while she lived at Agape Senior Care in West Columbia. Special thanks also to the hospice staff, especially Jackie Gordon and chaplains Chong, Lopez and Meyers for their support and love. We also wish to extend a very special thank you also to Marie Spano, mother's dearest Agape Sr. friend and her guardian angel. Her dedication and prayers for mother will never be forgotten.
