WHITEHILL- DUKEHART
JUNE KATHRYN HAHN
Born in Pittsburgh on June 4, 1922, died in Pittsburgh on June 27, 2017. A strong, determined, cultured, loving woman, she had planned on celebrating her 95th birthday with family and friends, but had a heart attack and stroke leaving her guests to celebrate her 95th without her-and now to mourn her loss. 95! Almost all of those 95 years were spent within a few miles of where she was born in Squirrel Hill, she was anything but parochial. June was the middle child of Sigmund J. and Rhea Sinsheimer Hahn. Sig was the founder of Hahn Furniture Company. She went to Winchester-Thurston, Bryn Mawr College and the University of Pittsburgh. Although usually modest about her background, she did brag about her time at Bryn Mawr. She was proud of her family and they are proud of her. She let the world know how lucky she was. June was the mother of three children: Bobby, Chuckie and Johnny. She was married to Bob, Robert I. Whitehill, from 1942 until his death in 1987. She re-married at age 85 to Les, Leslie Dukehart, from 2007 until her death. She took up downhill skiing with Les in her early 70s, becoming an intermediate senior skier. June lived on Inverness Avenue in Squirrel Hill for 60 years. In 2014 she moved to her final residence in the wonderful environment of Lighthouse Pointe, there she made new friends and had a new chapter in her long life. Her sons are S. John Whitehill of Pittsburgh, married to Patricia "Trish" Butler Whitehill, Charles Hahn Whitehill of Cleveland and Jupiter, FL, married to Joan Bloomberg Whitehill, and Robert S. Whitehill, married to Roelie Bronsema Whitehill, of Pittsburgh. Her stepchildren are Rick Dukehart of Pittsburgh and Karin Dukehart of Denver. She is survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Madeline Rose Whitehill (J.P., Ph.D.), Cassie Ramirez Breneman (Zach) Jack Hahn Whitehill, Robert Bronsema Whitehill, Ria Catherine Whitehill, Dorie Galipo (Mario), Jamie Guedez (Jose) and Lissie Oehmka (Adam). Her great- grandchildren are Mira and Hanna Mae. As her sons were growing up, she attended innumerable events at Shady Side Academy and took community leadership positions, including Chair of LHAS. After her sons moved on to universities, she decided it was time to continue her education and to get a job. That was not something most of her friends would do, but she did. She earned a Master's degree in Social Work from Pitt in 1970. She worked as a geriatric social worker for Jewish Family & Children's Services for 20 years, she loved her work. She and both Bob and Les were very socially active at Westmoreland Country Club, Concordia Club, jazz clubs and many charity functions - she remained socially active, dining out regularly and engaging with friends until the end. Services at Rodef Shalom Temple, 4905 Fifth Avenue (at Morewood) on Friday, June 30, 2017, at 2 p.m. Visitation at Temple one hour prior to services, (1 - 2 p.m.). Interment West View Cemetery of Rodef Shalom Congregation. Arrangements entrusted to RALPH SCHUGAR CHAPEL, INC.
