June was a mentor, a colleague and a friend, and always an inspiration. Her research on the health impact of professional driving (mainly bus driving) was pioneering. Her work helped to show that hypertension was an occupational disease, and a major problem facing bus drivers. And she was a tireless advocate on behalf of bus drivers and worked closely with TWU Local 250A in San Francisco to help improve the working conditions of drivers. She was beloved by members of the Local and many other transport workers around the world. And, she inspired many of us to pursue participatory action research and educated many of us on the value of PAR.
