June Kallosser Whitesides

June Kallosser Whitesides Mar. 25, 1921 - Oct. 21, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek June Kallosser Whitesides passed away October 21 after a brief illness. A second generation Californian, June was born and raised in Oakland, the daughter of Hans and Blythe (Harrington) Kallosser. She was a proud graduate in 1942 of the University of California, Berkeley, where she pursued a double major in history and journalism. At Cal she met her husband, Thomas E. Whitesides, and the two were wed in 1942. After Tom's death in 1998, June continued to be a loyal supporter of Cal academics and sports, maintaining membership in the California Alumni organizations and Bear Backers. As a senior at Cal, June was elected to Mortar Board Society and enjoyed membership in the Mortar Board Alumni Club for many years. With Tom, she traveled extensively both in the US and abroad; her favorite city was Venice and her favorite trip overall was a trip to Egypt. She also had many enjoyable short trips to Carmel with family and friends - the ocean was a favorite destination. June was a long-time and valued volunteer with both the California Historical Society and the Contra Costa County Historical Society. Survivors include her only child, daughter, Patricia Whitesides, (fianc‚, Donald Bauman); sister-in-law, Jane (Whitesides) Flowers; niece, Kristin (Flowers) Holst-Chew (Christopher 'Scoob' Chew), and grand-niece, Miranda Holst and grand-nephew, Jack Holst. Extended family: John and Dorothy Dodds; Katy (Roy) Roberto and Amber; Julie (John) Fitzpatrick and Brogan; Edward and Celine Dodds; Karen (Sean) Gossard and Ethan and Gena. At June's request there will be no services, but in honor of her and Tom before the next Cal sporting event, yell "Go Bears!"
