Kara Doherty Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
Kara Lynn Doherty, 51 years old, was born on January 20, 1973, in Corning, NY. She passed away on June 30, 2024 at UMass Medical in Worcester, MA, after a long illness. She was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many people in her life.

Kara's favorite hobbies included tending to her many plants and doting on her beloved feline companion, Jing. She found solace and joy in nature, whether hiking through state parks or basking in the sun on the sandy shores of Cape Cod.

Known for her great sarcastic humor, Kara had a knack for making those around her laugh. Her greatest love was for her family and was always the happiest when surrounded by them at family dinners, special occasions or just visiting.

Kara will be deeply missed by her brothers Joe, Sean and Kevin Doherty, as well as her sister, Ann Smith. She was predeceased by her father, Francis J. Doherty and her mother, Martha Rowden Doherty. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews, an aunt, uncles and many cousins. Those who knew and loved her will be comforted by the good memories of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to your local animal shelter in Kara's memory, as she had a deep passion for animals and their welfare.

May Kara Lynn Doherty rest in eternal peace, forever remembered for her kindness and the joy she brought to those around her.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, July 28th, 2024 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Monoosnock Country Club in Leominster, MA.

The day my sister was born I was babysitting across the street. My dad said he would let me know the news as soon as he knew. I couldn't wait to see if it was a boy or a girl. Later he hung a sign on our lamp post announcing her birth. I was overjoyed to have a sister! I wish I had had more time to spend with her and share a few more laughs, but she was ready. I wish you peace and joy little sister.

My favorite memories are the summers on cape cod... laughing and not having a care in the world. I hope you are carefree again and you no longer have to carry the burdens of this world See you laters, love you.

First memory: 3rd Grade, Burgess, elementary school, Sturbridge, Massachusetts. At parent teacher night Kara introduced me to her parents, which I thought was really impressive. Through the years kept in touch with Kara via Facebook. Enjoyed my conversations with her and I will miss her.
