Karen Ann Cochran Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2011.
We mourn the passing of Karen Ann Cochran, beloved friend and mother, who, after combating cancer twice, eventually succumbed and passed away Thursday, February 3rd.
Born in Oklahoma City on April 25, 1955, she graduated from Cassidy School in 1973, wanting to pursue a life-long dream of becoming a veterinarian, but was led down a different path. Having graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in computer science in 1977, she taught mathematics for a number of years in various levels of education. After being "tired of starving to death," she found employment with Fleming Foods as an SQL manager, touching the lives of many of her co-workers with her effervescence and optimistic outlook on life. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2000, Fleming closed its doors and in June, she found work at the Department of Human Services' Finance Division, where she would spend the rest of her days working. She still continued to pursue her veterinary degree, but was taken away from the world before she could finish, succumbing to a second diagnosis of cancer after ten years of being cancer-free, remaining in Oklahoma City for the rest of her life.
She was married only once to Carl Wendell Tolle, Jr. in 1984 for eight years, but still remaining faithful to him, despite their lack of marriage, for 26 years. She is survived by Wendell and her sons, Alex and Drew. Funeral services are to be held at Memorial Park's Historical Chapel on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM with committal to follow.

The memorial today was touching and inspirational. I worked with Karen at Fleming and always admired her joyful spirit and her sense of humor. She could always find something to laugh at in every situation and when there was nothing to laugh at, she would create something! She was just fun to be around and she will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I worked with Karen at Fleming and my goodness how she loved her boys - talking fondly about them daily !!
I remember going with Karen to check on her Mom during our lunch hour several times. I attended her mom's funeral & remember how much Karen made everyone laugh during such a difficult time - she had such a great sense of humor, and was such a caring person. I know all will miss her. May God bless and comfort Alex and Drew and all her family.

There were so many facets to Karen. She went through life always the student, learning much and sharing her knowledge, facing new challenges straight forward, never giving up, and offering her love to those important to her. Our family was fortunate to have had Karen in our lives, we have many wonderful memories and we treasure them. God's blessings to Alex and Drew, you were the light of her world.

Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

What I remember most about Karen is how much she truly cared about the people around her. She was very genuine and a complete extrovert - she never met a stranger. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family - especially her two boys, who I know were her pride and joy. May God give you the peace that passes all understanding....
