Karen Gath Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 5 to Apr. 6, 2014.
Karen L. Gath
RCN Cable, Plaza Limousine; 63

LOWELL -- Karen L. Gath, age 63, a beloved member of a well known Greater Lowell family, died peacefully on Friday, April 4, at her Lowell home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was the life partner for the past 14 years of Michael Mason, with whom she resided.

Karen was born in Lowell, January 7, 1951, and became one of ten children of Edith (Seigal) Gath of Tewksbury, and the late Harold J. Gath. She was raised in Tewksbury, and graduated Tewksbury Memorial High School with the Class of 1969.

She worked for Raytheon in Burlington, and later as the office manager at Plaza Limousine Company in So. Lowell. Most recently, she worked for RCN Cable company in Framingham.

She loved taking trips to Ipswich with Michael, the outdoors, boating, fishing and camping in the White Mountains, time on Kezar Lake in Maine, tossing horse shoes and darts with the traveling league at the Bunting Club, and watching the Patriots, and the Red Sox. She will be remembered as the "life of the party," her warm and caring personality, her telephone voice, her great beauty, and her inner warmth willingly shared with everyone she met.

Besides her mother and life partner, she leaves eight sisters and brothers, Wayne J. Gath of Destin, FL, James R. and his wife, Gina (Lippiello) Gath of Reading, Bonnie S. Gath-Guptill of Billerica, Gerald E. and his wife Martha (Lyons) Gath of Dunstable, Bruce A. Bevin of Lowell, Rebecca and her husband Garry Fuller of Dracut, Dennis M. and his wife, Nancy (Pasciuto) Gath of Tewksbury, Lorna-Faye Gath and her fiancé, Frank Pare of Hampton, NH; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her biological mother, Laverne Black, and her sister, Donna Cote.

Karen's family would like to extend a special thanks to the Lowell General Cancer Center for their thoughtfulness and care over the past year, and the Merrimack Valley Visiting Nurse Association for their compassionate and professional Hospice care, provided at her home during this last month.

Becky, Gary, Monica, and Justin,
Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of such a great person. There's not much I can say about Karen that you all don't already know...how loving and caring she was and how special a person she was to all of her family. I thank her for giving my brother many wonderful years of happiness and love. She meant so much to him, they were a great couple who enriched each others life in many ways. I thank you for extending your heartfelt feelings towards my brother in his darkest hours as well. I appreciate you being there for him just as much as you being there for your sister and loved one. It means so much to me for him to have your support and kindness, because at the end of the day we all go home to our loved ones for comfort and love at such a difficult time. Mike will only have memories, no home, no love of his life to embrace and find comfort in her arms anymore. Again, I can't thank you enough for being there for him. Karen was a very special person and will be missed beyond words description. She gave so much and asked for so little. I will remember her for her smile, the twinkle in her eyes and kindness, especially towards my brother, I'm glad I got to know her. May you all find strength in one another to endure the hole she has left behind, knowing she is at peace and NO MORE SUFFERING will get everyone through the tough times, as well as all the fond memories everyone has of her.

Rest in Peace Karen, it is long over due. Always in our hearts, love Judy & Family
