Morris Murray Schechter 96, of South Miami, Florida passed away January 20, 2023. Murray was born November 10, 1926, to Charles and Minnie Schechter in Newark, New Jersey.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years Joyce A. Schechter. He is survived by sister Nancy Rosenbaum of New York, and three children Sanford Schechter (Daisy), Tracye Solove (Robert), Jack Schechter (Christine). He had eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
From an early age, Murray knew he wanted to become a physician. He enjoyed fishing, playing tennis, and an active lifestyle. After graduating Miami Beach High School, he attended and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then continued his education at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans. Upon completing medical school, he served in the Air Force and was stationed in Rome, New York.
At the conclusion of his military service, Murray moved to a warmer climate in Miami, Florida to begin his medical practice. He worked at various hospitals in Miami including Mercy, Doctors, and South Miami. His career in Internal Medicine spanned many decades, and when asked how he would like to be remembered, he answered "not for what I did, but what I did for others."
A funeral service was held January 23, 2023, at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mount Nebo/Kendall Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Miami, Florida, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered by visiting dignitymemorial.com.
