Karen Hunter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2024.
Karen Louise Hunter, 79, of Douglasville, Georgia and Cashiers, North Carolina, passed away on June 24, 2024. She was born on February 21, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. Karen dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, always putting their needs above her own. Karen was a woman of simple pleasures and cherished moments. Her interests included antiques, Yorkshire Terriers, her house in the North Carolina mountains, and most of all, spending quality time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She had a heart full of love that she generously shared with those closest to her. Karen is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Gertrude DeMann, and her sister Millie Clarke. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Richard Hunter, her son Justin (Sarah) Hunter, her grandchildren Haylee Hunter and Lilly Hunter, her sister Arlene Johnson, extended family, and friends. Services to honor and remember Karen will be held at a future date to be determined. In the meantime, let us hold dear the memories of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Karen's presence will be deeply missed, but her love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. We welcome you to provide your condolences, thoughts, and memories on our Tribute Wall. Karen simply desires that any contributions be made to the local ASPCA in her name. Oh My Gosh, what great times we had with Karen as a member of "The Gang". So many great memories over these past more than 40 years together, often visiting the Hunter´s in their mountain home in Cashiers, and enjoying Karen´s delicious breakfast casserole. Karen never had a bad word to say about anyone and always made the person she was speaking with feel special. We miss and love you Karen.

Susan and I will always treasure the many great times we had with Karen and Dickie in the mountains at their beautiful mountain home (not a cabin! As Karen exclaimed) in Cashiers and Highlands! We´ve been friends for over 40 years! She was a gentle soul who loved her family, friends, pets, and antique treasures she collected! God rest her gentle soul! Bear and Susan

I met Karen at a bar in Chicago, asked her three times to dance, she kept saying no until the fourth time.
Shortly after that, she married me.
