Karen Watkins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 11 to Jan. 12, 2023.
Karen Ann Watkins, who many knew as red bird, 67, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 surrounded by her husband and two sons. Karen was the wife of Charles "Ed" Watkins for 42 amazing years.

Born on October 1, 1955 in Baltimore, MD, Karen was a graduate of Bel Air High School and received her degree in 1975 from Greater Baltimore Medical Center for Radiology. As a teenager and young adult, Karen enjoyed volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital. Upon receiving her degree in radiology, Karen worked at GBMC and Advanced Radiology during her career. For the last 7 years, Karen also worked at Petal's and Posies, she had a true passion for flower arrangements. Karen was also an active support services member at the Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company for 18 years.

Over the last 55 days Karen faced some of the toughest battles. For those that knew her well, know she was a fighter. With each battle she was given it was even more apparent how much of a true fighter she was. Those that knew her could easily describe her as thoughtful and kind hearted. Karen would be there at the absolute drop of a hat. For everything, anything, and anyone. She was an incredible sister, wife, mom and even more incredible GiGi. She loved her grand babies with her whole heart and they loved her even bigger. Karen had a true passion for cooking. Karen loved to try new recipes and Ed loved to be her taste tester. She loved celebrating and hosting with fancy dishes. She loved adventures to Lancaster with Ed and she loved giving him a hard time about auctions. She loved a good shopping trip and she especially loved a good sale. She loved swimming and exploring with her grandchildren at the cabin. She loved soft crabs, and crafting. She cherished girl's weekend with her sisters that consisted of shopping, games and late night giggles. Karen loved to watch birds in the window & her two cats. She loved fresh fruit from the orchard & veggies from the Amish stands. She loved nights at the Tiki Bar at the river and always stayed up until the train horn sounded. She was amazing and she loved unconditionally.

In addition to her husband Ed, she is survived by her two sons Brandon (Kait) and Corey (Samantha); Sisters, Susan (Rick) and Nancy (Mack); Grandchildren Jackson, Nicholas, Hattie, Parker and Dylan; God daughter Emily (Anthony), Niece Chris and Nephews Ben (Brittany) and John; Cousin Lee; Godmother Bernie; Spoiled cats Stella and Chloe. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Phyllis Evans.

A celebration of life event is being held at Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company; 2134 Harkins Rd, Pylesville, MD on February 4, 2023 from 10am-12pm.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Karen's name to the Judy Hinch Benevolent Fund at 2220 Ady Road, Forest Hill, MD 21050

So sorry to hear about Karen's passing. Ed & Fred went through the fire academy together, and we had many reunion parties at the cabin on the Susquehanna. She was sweet and kind and a gracious hostess. We will miss her and send our love and prayers to Ed and the family, hoping they find peace and comfort that she is in God's loving care.

Karen! Just that name brings a smile to my face and a tickle to my heart. Tho I didn´t see her too often in these last years when we did meet it was with heart felt hugs and good feelies.( we meet at Walmart, Tru Value,Boscovs,etc...she was always buying something for someone else. The last time it was for her newest grand baby). Love to all who loved and still love her.i
