Karim Harrison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 28, 2016.
Karim Rashad Harrison was born on February 28, 1978 at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England, where his parents, Ralph and Sandra Harrison were serving in the United States Air Force at RAF Upper Heyford. Karim was the only child of this union but is survived by an older sister Roxanne and an older brother Michael (both fathered by Ralph in a previous marriage.)

As a toddler, Karim was seen frequently in and around Bicester (a town around the Air Force Base where his parents were housed.). Karim spent many of his days with his nanny, Lisa Bates, who kept him during the day (and sometimes over night when his parents were on alert status). Having spent so much time with his nanny, Karim affected an English accent (which was lost quickly after his parents moved to Oklahoma in 1980).

In Oklahoma, Karim was in daycare and preschool at the Air Force Base where he gained a reputation for himself for standing up for himself, with a refusal to be bullied because he talked funny. Karim enjoyed fishing and learned bicycling when he was four years old. A fond memory occurred after he helped a neighbor's son (who was much older) learn to ride a bicycle. This boy was so excited that he said in his father's hearing, "I'm so happy I can pee in my pants!" Karim competed in gymnastics and track and field with the Arizona Cheetahs while in Junior and Senior High School.

In 1984 Karim's parents moved back to Arizona where Karim attended Edison Elementary and Kino Junior High School, in Mesa. During those years at Kino, Karim met his longtime buddy Greg. Their's was a tight relationship and a time when Karim revealed his 'wild side.' After his parents joined Tanner Chapel A.M.E. Church, Karim became a member and was very active in the YPD and a reluctant member of the Jewel Choir (having been around adults most of his early life he wanted to sing with the teens). He was very active with the Tanner Youth Choir, sang with the Male Chorus, attended Church School and Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Tanner Youth Council, led by the late Pastor Russell Thomas Hill.

Karim attended Westwood High School where he graduated in 1996. Later he attended Mesa Junior College and Collins College where he received an Associate of Arts Degree in Computer Technology. He worked a number of jobs leading up to his graduation. Notably, he worked for Luther Patton Sr. at Compac Design. Karim had a progression of jobs in Collections where his superb communications skills, ability to negotiate and operate Windows and Linux based computer systems served him well. He was last employed as a Collections Representative at Move, Inc. where he was thought of as a highly skilled and valuable employee.

Karim had a goal of becoming a fire fighter and was working with firefighters to improve his conditioning and fitness. Many were surprised how well conditioned he was a 38 years of age.

Karim was a very caring person and would literally give you his last dollar and the shirt off of his back. He did volunteer work with Manna Ministry of Hope at least two Saturdays a month. He loved talking with the clients and serving with pride. In fact, he was just out with his homeless friends last Saturday. He was also involved with the Phoenix Black Lives Matter Movement.

Enjoyment came from music, art and riding his Harley. He recently remarked to many that he needed to put down his toys and settle into becoming a family man.

Karim transitioned from this life in a tragic motorcycle accident on Easter Sunday morning, March 27, 2016.
He leaves to cherish his memory, parents, Ralph and Sandra Harrison, grandmother, Elizabeth Houston, soul mate Anastasia Renee Trujillo, son, Kalil Rakim Karim Harrison – projected birth date, August 9, 2016, sister Roxanne Taitano (Anthony), brother Michael (Tammy), a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, life brothers and friends.

In Liu of flowers donations may be made to his favorite charity Manna, A Ministry of Hope and/or towards Baby Kalil Rakim Karim Harrison who is projected to be born August 9, 2016.

You may not be here in the physical anymore, but your spirit will live on forever in the hearts of all those that you've crossed paths with throughout your life. You, Josh, & Space will always be family...I love y'all!! We had the best, yet wildest adventures....thank you for being you & for allowing us to be us...wild, young, & never dumb!!! We will always look out for your son & his mother. I think this made Josh finally decide to come back....your last conversation. I miss you my friend!! I'll never forget the advice you gave me in our last conversation...I'm sorry I wasn't doing better at the time & I didn't tell you why, but because of you I've learned. Thank you! I know you were at your funeral smiling at all your people reunited....we could feel it!

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little but not too long
And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss Me But Let me Go!
Love ya brother. One sweet day, until then we carry you in our hearts always

Love you! Brothers in life and death

Hey brother,

You were there for me when I was on the ledge. When everyone couldn't be around me, you were still you wer No matter how much my loss was destroying, you were still there. A decade later, you were still. Life changed for the better and our conversations were only about the happiness in our lives. It breaks my heart to know that the last time we spoke was our last. You will forever be a part of who I am.

Karim, you were my other son. I am truly going to miss your positive attitude and all the intelligent conversation we had in regards to religion. Never thought someone so much younger than me could bring such knowledge to the table to provoke thought but you had a way of doing that in me. And, I am truly going to miss your "positive" presence in Corwin's life. May your spirit live on in my son. Love you and I will miss you so much. May you R.I.P (my Son from another mother). You are with God now and I know He will take better care of you than we did on earth. Your family is in my prayers.

You are an Eternal Being now Brother Karim! And when you re-emerge into the non-physical, you don't become less than and you will not turn into this unfocused energy that just floats around in nothingness. You now assume that perspective of All-Knowingness of I AM. You remember all that you are, not just the personality that you were! Big heart, super intelligent, hella funny, charismatic, beautiful smile, and a beautiful soul. I won't find a reason to feel any grief about the re-emergence. I know it's a new beginning of extraordinary proportion. Non-Physical Energy is what you will give us moving forward...We'll see you again. The force will always be with us! Much Love and Respect to you and ALL your family. It was a pleasure we crossed paths mane! Ride In Paradise!

Condolences to Missionary Sandra Harrison and her family.
My God grant you and your family comfort during this time of grief in the loss of your son.
Here is a poem I found online, the poem did not list an author, but I would like to share.

The Garden of Your Love:
Fully grown, but still your child,
A flower in full bloom, plucked in his prime. Press the precious blossom in the book of your memories,
And there he'll remain in the garden of your love.

Praying for the family.

I met Karim in 99, I got to know him and his adventurous ways then. He was the most happiest when he was living against the grain of life! I was shocked to hear of his passing because I know he was expecting his first child and that's something than I believe he truely was looking forward to "fatherhood"! Karim there was a lot of things that I wanted to tell you before you passed, but time did not permit it. This is a true testimony to all of you out there, always say what you need to say to the people you know because tomorrow is not promised. Prayers to the family, Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed!

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

Karim...I miss you, bro....bro, I am really missing our routine convos of life, debating each other and jokes...I catch myself wanting call you, just to talk like we always did after work....I now reminisce on the times we hung out, travelled to Mexico and lived as young men...and then these latest years of us transitioning into mature men. We started out 'colleagues in the industry' back in 2002...and somehow ended up friends...family. I love ya, bro. I'd do anything to change the fact, man...bro, I just want to say thank you for being my friend. You are the family in AZ, I did not have. I will never forget you, K. Love ya, bro. R.I.P.

I've known you since third grade we gave each other quite the hard time, running around the playground wild and free:). Watching each other grow up through middle school and even high school. You were so kind and just to me a free spirit. I just ran into you at the mall a month ago after so so long and I can't help to think what the reason was behind that. We hugged and as we said so long I never dreamed I'd be writing these words. You're in Paradise now and you are truly that free spirit. My condolences to your family and all loved ones.
