Karin Friedman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2024.
In Memoriam:

Karin Louise Friedman, 82, (Feb 28, 1942 to May 20th, 2024) passed away in Hospice Care in Kirkland, WA.

She had sustained several injuries due to a recent fall in her home in Bothell, WA.

Karin L. Fernandes was born Feb 20, 1942 to Mr and Mrs Frank Fernandes, longtime residents of Richmond, CA. She attended St Cornelius Catholic School in Richmond, CA and high school at St Joseph's Girls School in Berkeley, CA. She married Ron Delucchi in 1960 and had 3 children. Divorced in 1968, She attended Providence School of Nursing in Oakland and became an RN, working at both Richmond Hospital (until it closed) and Brookside Hospital in San Pablo.

She was a much beloved labor and delivery nurse until her retirement in 2002. She was well known at Brookside for bringing hundreds of babies safely into W Contra Costa County. Many babies were named after her.

In 1974, she married Dr. Gerald Friedman of El Cerrito; the first Pediatrician in the East Bay. She became a step mother to Gerald's 4 children, Joel, Amy, Laura and Joyce Friedman, who stayed with their mother and subsequently moved to Tennessee.

Karin and Gerry moved to Berkeley, with Karin's three children. In the 1980's, she and Gerald purchased a home in the old Brickyard Cove in Point Richmond, CA., and lived there until Dr Friedman passed away in 1998.

She then moved to Ashland, OR., home of the Shakespeare Festival, in which the family enjoyed for several years. Karin's former coworker and friend , Barbara Reed , retired and moved to Whidbey Island, WA. Karin fell in love with the Island and soon purchased a home there in Langley.

In 2003, Karin married long time family friend, Allen Wolman of Bothell, WA . She moved to Bothell and lived several happy (but short) years with him. Mr Wolman passed away in 2009.

Up until her passing, the Wolman children Jonathan, Ilana, Daniel and Cecilia, along with their extended families were all much beloved by her. They were a constant in all aspects of her life, along with their 3 children, (Nicole, Brayden and Amber) to whom she adored and considered herself "Grandma Karin".

Karin loved to shop, cook and travel- -in that order. She enjoyed the Arts, Galleries, museums, stage, screen and concerts - all of it. She loved sporting events, rooting for her home teams. She spent many Holidays and family events with the loving and dedicated Wolman family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Katherine Delucchi- Allen of Rogue River, OR., Cynthia Delucchi (Cissy) of Vallejo, CA (deceased) and son Daniel J Delucchi, wife Jennifer and 2 grandchildren, Adriene Delucchi and Ella Delucchi, all of Tracy, CA.

An active volunteer and avid reader, Karin Friedman was always active in her community. Being a generous philanthropist, she believed education was important to her community and to the World. She gifted her local Rescue Missions, food pantries soup kitchens, etc. She donated books and volunteered her time at local libraries. Her caring arms outstretched, from Animals to Children .

She has family and many friends she loved dearly, too many to list. She will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers please keep her in your heart and prayers. Her memory will live on.

You may also donate to her favorite National Park- The Yosemite Foundation. A link will follow.

You´ve been my friend and a good friend to my Mama who passed 1 year ago. I know you both will meet at the
Gourmet Coffee Shop in the sky every morning and tell tales while looking down after us. We really missed you when you left Ashland. I wish we would have taken the trip to Italy like we had planned. Sometimes life (and death) gets in the way of our plans. God´s plan is always a surprise, but it has to be that way. He is God you know. Mysterious ways. Hope to find out the mystery someday.. Love you, you kind and gentle lady!

I loved it when she would talk to her cat, Bunny. Bunny had an upward inflection on the end of her Meow..as if she were asking Mom a question. Mom would speak English, and Bunny answered. She really seemed to understand her! Very sweet and unusually docile little kitty. Would not go outside when the streetlights were on. She loved to watch cooking shows when Mom was away..
