Karin Shirley Stringer

June 21, 1964 - March 29, 2025

Karin Stringer, 60, passed away on March 29, in the company of her devoted husband, after a courageous fight with stage four colon cancer. Born in Ishpeming, Michigan, and raised in Marysville, Washington, Karin graduated from Marysville Pilchuck High School in 1982. She continued her education at Everett Community College before transferring to Eastern Washington University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1986.

In 1985, Karin met her soulmate, Phil, and they were married in 1988. After earning her degree, she spent two years teaching before focusing entirely on raising their growing family. Together, they were blessed with five wonderful children and built a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. Their family continued to grow with the arrival of eight cherished grandchildren, each bringing Karin endless joy. Her love for her family was the center of her world, and she had a special gift for capturing life's sweetest moments through photographs, preserving memories that will be treasured forever.

Karin devoted 24 years to teaching. Most of her career was spent as a 2nd-grade teacher at Presidents Elementary in Arlington, where she inspired young minds with her passion for literacy. While working full-time, she earned her Master's degree from Seattle Pacific University-a testament to her dedication and drive. Known for her warmth, humor, and passion, she created a classroom environment where students felt safe, supported, and inspired. Karin was deeply loved and trusted by her students, and she found great fulfillment in mentoring aspiring teachers. She also served on numerous committees, contributing her insight and heart to district decisions aimed at improving education for all.

Hosting friends and family was something Karin was enthusiastic about, turning every gathering into a warm and memorable event. She made everyone feel welcome, whether it was a cozy dinner or a holiday celebration. Her love for family extended to both attending and hosting family reunions, where she cherished the opportunity to reconnect, share stories, and strengthen family bonds across generations. Her home was always open, reflecting her generous heart and unwavering devotion to the people she loved most. Her hospitality left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Later in life, antiquing and traveling became Karin's favorite joys. She had a gift for finding unique treasures at antique shops and garage sales, always drawn to items with character and history. Her love of travel took her on both nearby getaways and far-off adventures, where she embraced new experiences and created lasting memories. These passions brought her happiness and fulfillment, and she loved sharing her finds and stories with those around her, always with a warm and generous spirit.

Storytelling came naturally to Karin, not only in enjoying stories herself but in sharing them with others. She loved passing along her favorites to friends and family, whether it was a book she couldn't put down, a heartwarming movie, or a TV show that made her laugh out loud. To her, stories were meant to be shared-to spark conversation, laughter, and connection. Her excitement was contagious, and those close to her will never forget how she lit up when sharing something that touched her heart.

For many years, Karin was a devoted and faithful member of the Free Methodist Church. Her deep commitment to God was reflected in her active service, including volunteering as a chaperone for youth trips, where she mentored and guided young hearts with love and care. She cherished her time at women's retreats, finding renewal and strength in fellowship. She was a dedicated participant in small prayer groups, offering heartfelt prayers for those in need.

Karin is survived by her loving husband Phil of 36 years, their five children and spouses Nathan Stringer (Elizabeth Ann), Elizabeth Quint (Andrew), Josh Stringer (Heidi), Brian Stringer (Jessica), Julie Anne Stringer (Kevin), eight grandchildren, her parents John and Mary Rauch, and her brothers Dan Rauch (Jenny) and Mark Rauch (Kim). The light Karin readily shared with others will live on through the many family, friends, school faculty members, students, and fellow church members whose lives she touched. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

A memorial service to celebrate Karin's life will be held at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center at 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd, Arlington, WA 98223, on Saturday, April 26th, 2025, at 1:00 PM. All are welcome to join us in honoring and remembering a life filled with love, service, and cherished memories.

I got to know Karen at Arlington Free Methodist in a Dinner for 6 small group ( she makes a mean lasagna- she said her kids loved the recipe). She had always reached out with kindness and friendship. The picture message below was her checking in on me- our son had the possibility of losing his eye at the time) More recently, I connected with her at the church women´s retreat which she led. I still had plans for many more coffee dates- my heart hurts for Phil and her family. It brought bittersweet joy at the service today hearing her daughters speak. Their voices and mannerisms sound just like her- what a beautiful family from a beautiful person.

I can't remember how long I've known Karen, but she was a joy to be around, I remember telling her I was up set and missing family around Thanksgiving, I told her that my girls had no cousins here and it was the same old thing with my husband family that only had adults around. Karen said well let's meet for breakfast before Thanksgiving and get the kids together,so that is what we did for quite a few years . I don't know if I ever told her how much that meant to me. I'm mad I didn't run over and see her as soon as she told me she was sick. I guess I didn't process how bad it was! I love all you guys, stringers , I'm so sorry you lost a beautiful, wonderful and funny mom, wife and grandma.my prayers are with you. JANA HELM

We would love to say how much Karen has meant to our family over the years. She was our daughter´s teacher and Jessica loved volunteering for her class each year. We loved her so much. How her and her dad have sent our daughter care packages to over seas. Also it ment so much to our family when her and her father showed up to support us when Jessica´s dad passed. We will miss her so much.

Karin was a very special person in my life. The best neighbor and friend I could have ever dreamed of. I loved it when she was excited to show me a new spot im her house or yard where she´d been "puttering". She told me stories about each of the meaningful items in her beautiful home. Karin lived and loved well. We had many special conversations about her love and admiration for Phil and each of her kids, their spouses, and her grandchildren. A couple years ago she gave an inspirational message at her church which I got to hear. Hearing her testimony caused me to admire her even more. I´m a better wife, mom, and friend because of Karin´s influence in my life. I loved you, Karin. I WILL see you again!

My husband and I met Karin and Phil 2 years ago. (Our son Kevin is engaged to Julie Anne). Ron and I instantly made a connection with Karin & Phil. Conversation flowed so easily for us. We were, and are so happy for the engaged couple. Karin and I bonded over the fact that we were pregnant with twins at the same time in 1996! She with Julie Anne & Brian, and me with Kevin & Marc. Karin instantly loved our son, and called him sweet Kevin. (I loved her for calling him that) I didn´t know Karin for a long time, but I knew I loved her because of her beautiful daughter Julie Anne, and the love she has for my son. Much love to the Stringer family. May the wonderful memories of Karin help you in this time of grief.
