Smitty, family lover, motorcycle rider, car builder, country server, and friend, lost his lengthy battle with complications from vascular disease. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Blanc MI.
Family was important to him. He came from a large family with 3 brothers, Bruce Smith, Kenneth Smith, Peter Smith, & 3 sisters, Barbara Horton-Wright, Rosemary Rollyson & Kathleen Davidson. He loved his daughter Amy Maul, granddaughters Megan Johnson, Chelsea Wood, and great grandson Daxton Wood. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews would beg for motorcycle rides, loved his cat, & asked endless questions about his beard, tattoos, and his missing leg. With a sparkle in his eyes he would answer them all.
Karl worked at Buick for over 30 years. It’s where he got his nickname Smitty.
He was drafted into the Army and served in Viet Nam. He was a proud American Veteran.
Smitty’s motorcycle brothers and sisters were not gonna let him sit back and let him feel sorry for himself after he lost his leg to his disease. They welcomed him back with his 3 wheeler to continue his biking adventures and trips to the local watering holes.
Smitty loved: a good joke, his ladies at the clubs, his cat (KitKat), playing Candy Crush and watching Jerry Springer. He was 1 of a kind.
Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Veterans National Cemetery when motorcycle weather is here.

Smitty was my mom's next door neighbor on Schram Street. He was a kind man and a good neighbor. Sympathy to the family. Rest in peace, Smitty... "forever riding free".

Gone too soon my friend.
We shared lots of laughs and some serious chats. Always got along. You were that way with most everyone. Kind, caring and considerate. Godspeed my friend. May you rest in peace.
