KATE LURYA WEIL

Kate Lurya Weil, affectionately known as "Nana Kate," just five days before her 104th birthday, passed away peacefully Oct. 11 at her home in Chicago. Actively involved in numerous charities, she was a Founder and President of the Chicago Chapter and a National Vice President of the Brandeis University Women's Committee, as well as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and many Jewish charities. She attended the University of Illinois where she was a Phi Sigma Sigma and graduated from Northwestern University in 1928, was a world traveler and also an avid dancer. She was a loving mother to Harold (Jane) Sherman; aunt to Donald (Cheryl) Bergman; sister to the late Dorothy (Joe) Bergman; grandmother to Charles (Amy), Melissa (Mike), Jonathan (Kelan), and Steve (Pam) Sherman and Bonnie (Peter) Flanzer; and great-grandmother to Jacob Sherman, and Betsey and Julie Flanzer; former wife of the late Samuel J. Sherman and Dan Weil. The family would like to thank Odette Ladlee for her many years of loving care. Service Thursday, October 14,2010 2 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Road, Skokie.
