Katherine Barbara Balkowiec

On July 10th, 2024, Dr. Katherine Barbara Balkowiec, 58, passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on November 28th, 1965, in Starachowice, Poland and was a beloved mother, daughter, doctor, and friend.

Kate was known for her compassionate heart and valiant dedication. From an early age, she knew she wanted to help people and resolved to become a medical professional. In 1991, she received her medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw before emigrating to the United States.

As a pediatrician, she touched the lives of many people. She worked at the Cincinnati Children's emergency department for over a decade and was distinguished for her tireless patient care as well as her empathy. She always advocated for those in need and the countless letters from parents and children are a testament to how hard she would fight for her patients.

She enjoyed travelling to warm beaches and exploring different foods. Preferring to cook for others rather than herself, she often shared skillfully crafted dishes, such as pierogis or szarlokta, with coworkers and friends. She loved listening to music and had a distinct passion for reading.

Since adolescence, Kate struggled with severe chronic pain and depression that influenced much of her life. In spite of her hardships, she never faltered in displaying the kindheartedness that endeared her to so many. In 2022, her physical health began to decline, and she found herself in a lengthy recovery process that demanded all of her.

Kate's passing is a profound loss to her family and friends. She will forever be remembered by all who had the pleasure of experiencing her unique sense of humor, sharp intellect, and her remarkably caring nature.

Dr. Kate is survived by her children, Ola and Misha, and their father, Chris, who all live in Ohio. She is also survived by her parents, Aleksandra Maria Czerminska and Andrzej Florian Szeremeti, and her brother, Marek, all of whom reside in Poland.

Our family wishes to express their appreciation for the support received during this difficult time. Friends are encouraged to share condolences and memories as a tribute to her legacy. She will forever be cherished by those that loved her and missed by many more.

Zawsze bronila potrzebujacych, nawet gdy napotykala przeciwnosci.

Kasia lubila podrózowac na cieple plaze i poznawac rózne potrawy. Wolala gotowac dla innych niz dla siebie, czesto dzielila sie umiejetnie przygotowanymi potrawami, takimi jak pierogi i inne polskie przysmaki, ze wspólpracownikami i przyjaciólmi. Uwielbiala sluchac muzyki i miala wielka pasje do czytania.

Od dziecinstwa Kasia zmagala sie z silnym, przewleklym bólem i depresja, która wplynela na znaczna czesc jej zycia. Pomimo tych trudnosci nigdy nie wahala sie okazywac zyczliwosci, która zjednala jej sympatie tak wielu ludzi. W 2022 roku jej zdrowie fizyczne zaczelo sie pogarszac i znalazla sie w dlugim procesie rekonwalescencji, który pochlanial jej wszystkie sily.

Smierc Katarzyny jest gleboka strata dla jej rodziny, przyjaciól i znajomych. Na zawsze zostanie w pamieci wszystkich, którzy mieli przyjemnosc poznac jej wyjatkowe poczucie humoru, przenikliwa inteligencje i wyjatkowo opiekuncza nature.

Katarzyna pozostawila w glebokim bolu dzieci, Alexandre i Michala, oraz ich ojca, Krzysztofa, wszyscy mieszkaja w Ohio. Pozostawila takze rodziców Aleksandre Marie Czerminska i Andrzeja Floriana Szeremeti oraz brata Marka z zona Katarzyna i córkami, którzy mieszkaja w Polsce.

Nasza rodzina pragnie wyrazic wdziecznosc za wsparcie otrzymane w tym trudnym czasie. Zachecamy przyjaciól do skladania kondolencji i wspomnien w ramach holdu dla jej dziedzictwa. Na zawsze pozostanie w pamieci tych, którzy ja kochali, a wielu innych bedzie tesknilo za nia.
