KATHERINE TERESA DEHLER MARKS Katherine Teresa Dehler Marks, affectionately "Baby" Dehler", died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born August 7, 1924 in Charleston, SC to Harry and Margaret Dehler. She loved the Lord and has now joined her son, Kevin Marks in Heaven. After graduating from New Hanover High School in 1943, she attended the Duke School of Nursing. As a teenager and young adult, she won many beauty contests, participated in the Azalea Festival Parade, and was offered Hollywood screen tests. Kathy worked with her grandmother, Julia Akel, at The Julia dress shop, was a model for Merle Norman Cosmetics, and also worked for National Airlines. After marrying, she lived in Fairfax and Oakton, VA with her children and was a member of Truro Episcopal Church and worked at the Pentagon. Returning to the Wilmington area in 1978, she last worked for the NH Co. Senior Center. A lifelong student, she earned a paralegal degree in her later years. Kathy was favored of a disarming drawl, a sharp wit, and a world-class vocabulary. She was an avid racquetball player and had a fondness for men in uniform, well-crafted martinis in moderation, and John Wayne movies to excess. Left behind to cherish her memory as a loving mother and doting grandmother are daughter Kimberly and husband Don Lefler, granddaughter Blair, and grandson Cameron of Wrightsville Beach, NC; daughter Christine and husband Jesse Suit, and grandchildren Ryan, Haley, and Abby of Virginia Beach, VA; and daughter-in-law Lisa Campbell Marks of Cary, NC. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Meals on Wheels, through the N.H. Co. Senior Center. In keeping with Kathy's wishes there will be no formal services.

Your Mother was a wonderful lady. I remember one time sharing a Thanksgiving dinner with your family at my sister Caroline's house at Lion's Gate. It was a wonderful time. We are sorry for your loss.

My thoughts are with you and your family. She's in a better place. She was very kind and loving to me, and throughout the years very supportive as well. She was my encourager! She really was like a second Mother to me and I will always remember her fondly.

Death.....to Life

Death comes to us as an unexpected and welcomed guest; always preparing for the visit, yet never feeling quite ready to receive.

Interesting enough, the journey of life is similar. We're preparing ourselves for the Lord with great expectation, yet feeling somewhat inadequate.

The Good News is that we're ALL welcomed just as we are, and our earthly death is the awesome beginning of our eternal life, all for the asking!

Let us celebrate our new life and home with a renewed attitude of thanksgiving and praising. Hallelujah! What a glorious day!

We are now present with our heavenly Father and all of our loved ones. Thanks be to God! He is a faithful God who keeps His promises and yes, death is just the beginning of Life.

In loving memory of Katherine Teresa Dehler Marks,

Dearest Kim, Don, Christine, Jesse and all the Grand Children,

You know we loved your Momma as our own. She blessed us with her cheery disposition and loving kindness. She always had time to spread a lot of love and always, welcomed us with a big hug. We look forward to the day when we shall once again embrace our Katherine while thanking our heavenly Father's Son, Jesus Christ, that His gift made it all possible to be reunited. Praise be to God.
We'll miss you Baby! In the meantime, dear family and friends, may your hearts be filled with the peace and comfort knowing that she was indeed loved and cherished.

All our love and blessings,
Caroline and Gary

I remember "Baby", as one of the most beautiful young girls I have ever known...my brother "Football" Smith, adored her, and spoke of her until he passed away in 2009..... My heart is sad, I live in Vabeach , Va now but refer back to the Star News. Thinking of the family, my prayers....
