Katherine H. (Strange) Rector, age 61, most recently of Clemson, SC, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2022, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, SC, after an extended illness and decades long struggle with alcohol dependence. Kathy, as she was known by her friends and family, was born in Framingham, MA, on April 14, 1960. She was raised in Massachusetts, and like many in her family, was bitten by the bug of wanderlust. She spent time in Virginia and California but called South Caroline home for most of the last 25 years. Kathy was a hard worker and loyal friend, stubborn with a mean temper if it showed itself (but burned out quickly), an avid cat lover, and she had a hardy laugh and a bawdy sense of humor appreciated by her friends and family. She also always loved being near the ocean. Kathy is predeceased by her beloved infant daughter, Lindsey Hurd, her father Robert P. Strange, and her oldest sister, Karen Modica. She is survived in grief by her much loved grandchildren, Samuel and Alden Phillips, and her daughter and son-in-law, Kerri (DeYoung) and Jeremy Phillips, all of Wilmington, MA; her mother and step-father Joan (Clews) and Ronald Shea, of Farmington, ME; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rose Strange, of PA; her brother, Michael Strange, and dear friend, Denise Caso, of VA; her brother Timothy Strange, and dear friend, Sue Strange, of FL; her sister, Laura Hadley, of MA; her brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Donna Shea, of MA; her brother and sister-in-law, Sean and Jessica Shea, of RI; her brother and sister-in-law, Jason Strange and Jean Shim, of VA; her sister and brother-in-law, Kendra and Tim Yamashita, of VA; her step-mother, Luci Strange, of VA; and multiple nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends, including her dear and dedicated friend, Jessica Lantgios, of Clemson, SC. A memorial service for Kathy and the scattering of her ashes will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to any SPCA.
