Katherine "Kathy" T. Reynolds

KATHY THORN REYNOLDS, 56, Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully at her home on January 4, 2013. Kathy was born on December 31, 1956 in Dallas, Texas to Ted and Ann (Montgomery) Thorn. She graduated from Lake Highlands High School (1975) and Texas Tech University (1979) with a B.A. degree in Advertising. She met and married the love of her life, Matt Reynolds, in 1980. They lived in Houston, Corpus Christi, Colorado and Overland Park, where they have resided for 24 years. They lived a very active life, camping and traveling extensively. She had especially fond memories of the Reynolds cabin in Westcliffe, Colorado where they spent much time with Matt's parents, fishing, hiking and enjoying the great outdoors. They enjoyed cruises and trips to Mexico, Alaska and the Caribbean. Perhaps most memorable were the Thorn family reunions that have occurred annually for 20+ years in locations ranging from Branson, MO to Breckenridge, Co. to Pagosa Springs, Co. She had a long successful career at Commerce Bank where she was a VP of Operations. She was well liked by her colleagues, who did a wonderful job of staying in touch during her illness. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Matt; daughter, Ashley; son, Sean; and grandsons, Dylan and Caden. She is also survived by her parents, Ted and Ann Thorn; sisters, Meg Fishback and Barbara Knott and brother, Ned Thorn. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. Kathy always had a smile on her face and dealt with her illness with grace, dignity and courage. We would like to thank Dr. Sarah Taylor for her compassionate care as well as Lorie Kemper and Kristin Harper. A visitation will be held Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made, in honor of Kathy, to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Pkwy # 100 Kansas City, MO 64114 or to the KU Cancer Center, 3901 Rainbow Boulevard Kansas City, KS 66103 .
