Katherine M. Ross Katherine M. Ross, 75, of Elgin, IL passed away on October 16, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born on April 2, 1934 in Elgin, IL the daughter of Robert O. and Margaret Young. Katherine was instrumental in starting the Girls Softball League at the Elgin National Little League, coaching the Daisy's Softball Team. Working in food service, she had worked 30+ years at Betty's Kitchen. Katherine was dedicated to her family, raising her children by herself, along with taking care of many animals. She will be deeply missed. Survivors include her seven children, Robert E. (Robin) Ross, Sheila (Scott) Thomas, Karen (Leroy) Mathieu, Joseph (Donna) Ross, Douglas Ross, Rodney (Sally) Ross, and Lowell (Laura) Ross; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, along with many family and friends. Also her faithful companion, King. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Anna Carbary and Josephine Cox. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October 20, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-9:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of services at the funeral home. Omission of flowers is requested, with memorials made to Anderson Animal Shelter, South Elgin, IL.
