Kathleen Dixon Culbreth, “Aunt Kitten”, 94, was born in Falcon, NC on August 17, 1919 to the late Lattie and Ada Barnes Culbreth. She was the niece of Julius Culbreth, founder of Falcon. She passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the home of her nephew, Gary Wages of Falcon, who was her caretaker for a year.
She is survived by her nephews, Gary Wages of Falcon; Travis Wages & wife Sheila of Coats; Warren Culbreth, Jr. & wife Anita of New Bern; nieces, Pam Taylor & husband Ronnie of Pink Hill; Debbie Best & husband Brooks of Dunn, former caretaker and great niece, Angie McLaurin; great nephews, Dr. Brett McLaurin & wife Dr. Sue Ei of Bloomsburg, Pa.; Zachary Wages & wife Becky of Wade, NC; great-great nephew, Trent Wages; sisters-in-law, Dollie Culbreth of Dunn and Hazel Culbreth Barnett of Bishopville, SC.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters; Blanche Lucas and Hazel Wages and brothers, Alston Culbreth and Warren Culbreth.
She graduated from Worth Business College of Fayetteville in 1946 and began working for the Cumberland County Public Library where she drove the bookmobile for 38 years, retiring in 1984. She made many friends, young and old, along the routes she traveled with the bookmobile. Years later she was often stopped and asked, “Aren’t you the bookmobile lady? I used to get books from you when I was little.”
She enjoyed reading, working in her yard, going to Bojangles in Dunn and visiting Shut-ins and nursing home residents. For many years she raised and sold Persian Cats. When she was 84 she was forced to stop riding her motorcycle when arthritis “slowed” her down. She never slowed down helping others and spreading her warmth. Her sweet smile, gentle and caring nature, and her strong will were an inspiration to young and old.

First of all our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. She was such a special person. She definitely looked out for everyone. I would like to share a story one of many which I will never forget. She was probably around 87 when this happened we were gone to work and we were having someone pick up something from our porch to be worked on well Miss Kitten seen him and she got in her truck and pulled it up right where he couldn't leave until he came out and told her what he was there for. After that day we never let no one else come unless she was told first! She was definitely one of a kind a good kind one that will be missed dearly.
