Kathleen Douglas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 2, 2025.
Kathleen "Kathy" Douglas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 78. Born Kathleen Potter on May 30, 1946, to Pete and Blanche Potter in Portland, Oregon, Kathy lived a life defined by love, kindness, and an unwavering optimism that inspired all who knew her.

Kathy grew up in Southwest Portland, attending St. Clare Catholic School through the 8th grade and graduating from Wilson High School. In 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Allan Douglas, embarking on a remarkable 60-year marriage filled with laughter, devotion, and shared adventures. Together, they raised two children, Chrissy and Jim, initially in Keizer, Oregon, where they settled in 1967, before moving to Wilsonville in 1993.

Kathy was a devoted mother and grandmother, rarely missing her grandchildren's school or sporting events. She is survived by her husband, Allan Douglas; daughter, Chrissy Cushing (Kirk) of LaPine; son, Jim Douglas (Andee) of Keizer; grandchildren, Daniel Cushing (Juan) of Beaverton, Sarah Cushing and Paige Cushing of Wilsonville, and Megan Peterson (Tregg) of Keizer; sister, Mary Jo Stephens (Dick) of Salem; and three nieces and six nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Blanche Potter, and her brother, John Potter, who passed away just a week before her.

Kathy's 30-year career in banking culminated in her role at a boutique bank in Springridge at Charbonneau, where she retired in 2012. Known for her personalized service, she built lasting relationships with clients, often going above and beyond to meet their needs. Her gentle nature, infectious sense of humor, and ability to connect with everyone made her a beloved figure in her community.

A woman of grace and class, Kathy never met a stranger and cherished her lifelong friendships. She found joy in simple moments-laughing with her husband, spending time with family and friends, and retreating to the couple's second home near Crescent Lake in the Cascades. Her optimism was a guiding light, as she often reminded her children to "choose happiness each day."

Kathy's beauty, warmth, and love will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Her memory will be cherished forever by her family, friends, and community.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at St. Cyril Catholic Church in Wilsonville, Oregon, with a reception and graveside service to follow.

My heart goes out to the Douglas Family. I thoroughly enjoyed the short time I spent with Kathleen at her cabin at Crescent Lake. She was a gracious host to our group and helped make the experience very memorable. I´m very happy I got the opportunity to meet her.
