Mrs. Kathleen Yates Franklin

Mrs. Kathleen Yates Franklin, 91, of Valdese, went to her Heavenly Home on Thursday April 25, 2019 at College Pines Nursing Center with her family by her side. Mrs. Franklin was born August 16, 1927 in Guilford County, NC, a daughter of the late Dewey Yates and Ruth Faye Shoe Yates Michael . She was a longtime member of Valdese First Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School Class secretary and a member of the OWLS. At the age of sixteen she went to Baltimore MD to work at the Social Security office (she did not have a SS # of her own), she then worked for a number of years for Alba-Waldensian and retired from Crestline Furniture Co. after 35 years of service. Kathleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and "Maw Maw Kat "to a number of children. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband David Finley "Bull" Franklin, a brother, Sanford Allen Yates and two half sisters, Ruby Davis and Linda Mae Gathings . Surviving are her daughters, Rita Dare Stokes and husband Richard of Valdese, Kathy Hoffman and husband John of Valdese and Davena Lee Piercy of Valdese. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jennifer Corpening, Allison Mace, Anissa Demiter, Heather Witherspoon and Stephanie Boykin, one grandson, Tyler Piercy, one step-grandchild, Mona Winey, five great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren and special neighbors Carl and Sheila Hefner. Funeral Services for Kathleen Franklin will be held at 3:-00 P.M. Monday April 29, 2019 in the Valdese First Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Lail officiating. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. Monday at the Valdese First Baptist Church.
