Kathleen Komaromi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 26 to Jun. 29, 2023.
Komaromi, Kathleen "Kay" (Frisina McGivern) - Kay was born in Ford City, PA to John and Jennie (Senepole) Frisina on 9/24/1930. After graduation and attending Duff's Business School, Kay worked for an attorney in Kittanning PA. Following her marriage to Edward F. McGivern, they moved to Butler PA and had two daughters, Susan and Maureen. In 1963, Kay separated from Edward and moved with her girls to the Mt. Washington area of Pittsburgh. Kay loved Pittsburgh and enjoyed working for HH Robertson Co. as an Executive Secretary for 25 years. At 40, Kay took up golf and she continued to play until around age 84. In 1979, Kay married Robert (Bob) Komaromi. While honeymooning in Southwest Florida, they discovered Sarasota, and the following year went back to Sarasota for a vacation and purchased a home. In 1986, after Bob retired and Kay was offered early retirement, they left Pittsburgh for Sarasota. Kay loved the beaches and all the arts and culture offered in Sarasota. She and Bob joined Rolling Green Golf Course and Kay played golf 2 to 4 times a week. Kay's daughter Susan retired to Sarasota in 2016, and her daughter Maureen moved to Sarasota in 2018. Her girls were grateful to be so close to her.

Kay passed away on June 22, 2023, after suffering a stroke on June 10, 2023. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Anthony and Sam Frisina and Jane (James) Winton, by her husband Robert and ex-husband Edward. Kay is survived by her daughters Susan McGivern (Jay Irwin) and Maureen McKee (Robert Kirkland), former son-in-law Alan McKee, granddaughter Jessica, niece Christine Fuller (Doug), grandnephews James and Ben, step daughter Susan (Gary) Gayda, and step daughter-in-law, Marcella Komaromi. She is also survived by Bob's 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Kay's family is so grateful for the love and care she received from the management and staff of Poet's Walk of Sarasota, where she lived for the past 3 years. Kay was always very social and had a lovely smile. Several of the staff at Poet's Walk referred to Kay as "Sunshine!" We are also grateful to the staff of Tidewell Hospice for all of their assistance in navigating this journey.
