Kathleen Mccomas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 11, 2011.
Kate McComas (December 5 1933-January 11 2011).
A wonderful life has ended. Throughout her 77 years, Kate's warmth and sincerity, and her boundless generosity shone like a beacon on all those fortunate to know her. Born Kathleen Welsh into a large family in the north of England, Kate made nursing her early career and became an outstanding ward and operating theatre Sister at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne. Later, married and a full-time mother, she showed no hesitation in moving to Canada and making a home for her young family in Hamilton-a city she came to love. A fierce supporter of the underdog, a practicing Catholic, and a champion of the unborn, Kate gave everything to causes she believed in. Always brave, her courage was never greater than in the last years of her life, when a cruel neurological disorder threatened to take her away on more than one occasion. Kate leaves behind her husband Alan, her brother Paul, her four children-Bridget, Anna, Richard and Barbara, and her eight grandchildren-Christopher, Jordan, Ryan, Emily, Naomi, Aidan, Emma and Luke, as well as many, many friends. Her family are grateful for the outstanding care and compassion that Kate received at McMaster Health Sciences Centre, especially on Ward 3Y. They also wish to thank Dr James Williams, Dr Adrian Upton, Father James Curtin, Stacey Taylor, Beatriz Olarte and Janine Watson, all of whom helped her in different ways at different times. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 14th, at St. Augustines's Catholic Church, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas, followed by interment at Mount Zion Cemetery, Copetown. In lieu of flowers, donations to Birthright would be appreciated. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Marlatt Funeral Home, Dundas.
