Kathleen Alice (Casey) Sweeney, 72, of Derby, Vermont, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025. Formerly of Cambridge and Melrose, Massachusetts, Kathleen cherished spending summers in Vermont with her late husband before making it her permanent home.

In 1975, Kathleen married William Sherman, and together they settled in Melrose, Massachusetts, where they raised their four children. She took great pride in creating a warm and loving home as a housewife and mother. She is survived by her four children: William J. Sherman and his wife Sadie of Wilmington, Massachusetts; Melissa T. Karpinsky and her husband David of Hampstead, New Hampshire; Paul Sherman and his wife Tara of Billerica, Massachusetts; and Katie Michaud and her husband Eric of Wilmington, Massachusetts. My deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to all who loved and lost Kathy. I have fond memories of her from when I was a child. I´d spend weekends, if not whole weeks, with her and the kids in Melrose. She would bring me to the Fine Art museum, along with her to work, and to soak up the sun in the park. We´d listen to contemporary music in her Volvo; she was the `cool aunt´ for me. And she´d always ask me "who stole the cookies from the cookie jar", and it wasn´t me- it couldn´t be. She held me during my baptism, and stood by my side when I was confirmed. Kathy was, for a time, a beacon of light during my darkest days. I thank God for the good memories I have of her and I pray for her everlasting peace now that she´s gone to glory. May God grant all who mourn her grace and comfort.
