I am so sorry for your loss. I was one of Kathy`s roommates at Ohio State. I send her Christmas cards every once in a while. I got the card returned this year. I was in shock. Kathy and I had so many good times. We were roommates for two years. She made me laugh. She introduced me to soap the late night soap opera. She was wonderful and she will be missed.

My wife, Sue, and I are shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of dear Kathy. It is so infrequent that one meets a person of her quality and compassion, and when she leaves us, we never forget her profound influence. I performed briefly with her group and marveled at how her music lifted her up. May her family and friends receive God's comfort in this time of great loss. She will be thought of often.

I first saw Kathy at Forest Park in Everett doing a set with her band, the Hettel Street Blues Band with Rick Bowen on drums. I was so knocked out with Kathy's voice and power that they had to play for the Washington Blues Society Blues bash, which I was able to arrange. That led to a distant but long term friendship. It didn't matter what Kathy sang. I would listen to her do rap if she had taken an interest, and I don't much care for rap. Kathy's attitude during the past stressful years coupled with her powerful and beautiful sound meant that she gave us more than we could ever give her. Sorry she is singing with angles now instead of singing for all of us. Dr. Hettel, you are my hero.
