Kathryn Hill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2025.
Springfield - Kathryn Hill passed away March 2, 2025, she was 66 years old. The daughter of Donald R Hill and Lois G (Wendel) Hill, Kathy was born September 8, 1958, and raised in Eugene, Oregon, graduating from NEHS in 1976.

She dedicated 43 years to roles such as secretary, office manager, and executive secretary. Beginning her career in the corporate sector, she became increasingly disillusioned by the disparity between substantial executive salaries and modest wages for hardworking employees. This growing sense of injustice led her to transition into positions within churches and nonprofit organizations, where she spent the final 30 years of her professional journey. Throughout her career, Kathy was driven by a strong commitment to social justice

In 1984, she moved to Mountain View and worked as Executive Secretary to the Director of Research for Beckman Instruments. After a year of aftershocks following the 7.1 Loma Prieta earthquake, she moved to Portland, OR where she was rehired by First Interstate Bank in the Tower downtown, as Executive Assistant to the CFO.

In 1993, she moved to Berlin, Massachusetts to marry Roy Badeau, with whom she had her only child, Katelyn. While living in Mass, Kathy worked for First Parish Church of Berlin, and First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury.

Living in Berlin was the happiest period of Kathy's life. She was involved with her church, town government, the Historical Society, volunteered in the school and at the public library. Living in New England was a dream come true for an American history nut. Kathy remained heavily connected to her friends in Berlin.

In 2009 Kathy and Katelyn moved to Springfield OR. Kathy was employed the last 15 years of her working career as office manager at the St. Thomas More Newman Center on the UO campus, working with students. Kathy loved "her kids" and maintained relationships with many of them.

Kathy was an avid reader and in 2024 alone, read 517 new books. Her love for literature, vibrant personality, sense of humor and her love of the color pink will be greatly missed. She is survived by her mother, Lois, her daughter Katelyn, her sister and brother-in-law, Kelly and Troy Landers, and her nieces, Alexis and Erica Landers.

The family would like to thank everyone at the Pete Moore Hospice House for making her final days comfortable. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 1 o'clock at the Universalist Unitarian Church at 1685 W 13th Ave. in Eugene, OR.

I was lucky to have gotten to know Kathy when I was a student at the University of Oregon and was involved in the Newman Center. We maintained a great friendship, and I always enjoyed the chance to catch up with her. She was a wonderful lady who will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace, Kathy.

Kathy and I were school friends. I remember the good times we all enjoyed at North Eugene High.

We fairly recently reconnected at a meetup with other school friends and enjoyed an engaging lunch together discussing our lives journey and our families.

I loved Kathy´s life perspective and it was fun to learn and grow together once more. Even though this was a very long lunch, I wish we lived closer and I could have met more regularly and shared our crazy lives.

I will miss my dear friend and I send hugs to her family who I know surely miss her most. I wish I could be there in July, but I will be thinking of her in Arizona.

Kathy was an amazing supporter of all of us Chit/chatters. I have grown to love her through all the many years of sharing our hopes and dreams and struggles and fears with one another. I only wish I had the opportunity to have met her in person. Our chit/chat world is not the same without her. She is so very much missed!

Kathy was kind, compassionate and efficient at work. I think everyone who knew her enjoyed her fabulous sense of humor. She loved Kate with 100% of her being. She also loved all things colorful, especially vibrant pink! The world was a much better place with Kathy in it. I hope she is in a place filled with bright colors and baby animals.
