Kathryn Mulvey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 30, 2025.
Kathryn "Kathy" Murphy Mulvey, 63, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on August 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on October 28, 1961, in Westchester County, New York, Kathy's vibrant personality and zest for life touched all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The cherished daughter of the late Raymond Murphy (one of the founders of Liberty Lines in Westchester County) and Barbara Murphy, Kathy grew up in Bedford Hills alongside her beloved brothers-Donald, Gregory, and Joseph-whose close sibling bonds shaped her fun-loving and outgoing nature. A natural conversationalist, Kathy was known for her infectious humor, love of a good time, and an undeniable gift for making friends wherever she went.

Kathy is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University. Following college, she continued her passion for golf that would define much of her adult life.

Her extraordinary skill on the course earned her the title of Women's Golf Club Champion 26 times, 11 wins at the prestigious Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York, 7 wins at Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich, Connecticut, and 8 wins at Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida. Both a competitor and a leader, Kathy proudly co-founded the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach along with her deceased loving husband, Stephen Mulvey, helping to foster a community where her love for the sport and for people flourished.

Under her stewardship following the death of her husband in 2017, Quail Valley rose to become one of Florida's most prestigious golf clubs, evidenced by a waiting list extending six and a half years. Kathy led significant enhancements to the club, including the launch of a bold renovation of the 30,000-square-foot Shinnecock Hills-style clubhouse, and the groundbreaking of "The Covey," a par-3 short course designed by Tommy Fazio. The Covey was introduced with the intention of inspiring junior and women's participation in golf. Kathy was known for her guiding motto: "How do we get to yes?" Whether serving members or supporting staff, Kathy emphasized responsive, positive collaboration across Quail Valley's community.

Beyond her achievements on the golf course, Kathy delighted in good restaurants, travel adventures, and spending time with cherished friends and family, whom she loved dearly. Her vibrant spirit and capacity for joy were matched only by her generosity. Kathy was a prolific fundraiser, passionately supporting a variety of charities and causes close to her heart, always striving to give back to her community.

Kathy's legacy is defined not only by her impressive accolades but also by her warmth, quick wit, and the genuine connections she made throughout her life. She leaves behind her brothers, Donald (Diane), Gregory (Melissa), and Joseph Murphy (Robin), nieces and nephews (Courtney (Ricardo and grand-niece Nora), Kaitlin and Briana of Vero Beach, Florida, Shannon and Ryan of Wilton, Connecticut and Melissa, Hayley and Brian of Ridgefield, Connecticut), as well as numerous friends and extended family who will miss her dearly.

A memorial service to celebrate Kathy's remarkable life will be arranged at a later date. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Kathy's memory to the Sean M. Healey and AMG Center for ALS at Massachusetts General, care of Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, reflecting Kathy's lifelong commitment to helping others.

Those who knew Kathy will remember her laughter on the golf course, her kindness in every encounter, and the joy she brought to so many lives.
