I did not know katie but so sorry for the family to loose your daughter. i will continue to pry for the family. and see her in heaven one day.

July 27, 2011

My name is Frankie Lillard. I lost my daughter, Katie, on August 6, 2007. She was driving the farm tractor and it reared up and flipped over on her. She was killed instantly. She was 26 years old and left behind a husband of 2 years and a 6 month old daughter. The loss has been almost unbearable, but the solace is knowing I will see her again in heaven. I was thrilled to watch the dedication of the memorial at the school and hear the accounts of so many of the eight being Christians. I pray God will give each of you strength. His promises are what keep each of us going.

I did not know Katie or her family personally. I live in Pflugerville, Texas. I am a weather fanatic and when I read on my phone during school that a tornado had hit a school in Alabama, I immediately began to pray for the students and their safety.
Come to find out, I lost a sister in Christ that fateful day as I too am a member of the Church of Christ.
Katie's story struck me more than any other tornado victim's story because I am her age.
And it made me realize how precious life really is and how short a time God may give us here on earth.

Mr. & Mrs. Strunk,
I've never met either one of you, but your daughter was an amazing young woman. I graduated in 06 and we never really talked in school. My fiance, Kacie, was in band with her and never had anything but great things to say about her. Katie used to come into Winn-Dixie when I was working there and she was such a nice person. You raised her right, and you did a great job. It has been just over a year now and I know it doesn't really hurt any less. I've been there. I lost my father when I was 14 years old. I am deeply sorry for your loss, but I know she is in a better place and we'll all see her again someday.

You have never met me -- I live in Texas. I wanted you to know that I have often lifted you in prayer this year. I was browsing on my computer the day the tornado hit, and I saw the radar and read the warning. It broke my heart to later find so many young people died. Katie touched my heart -- her picture, the remembrances of her life, your testimony, -- all of these helped me know that God is in control. You have touched so many. I prayed today for some special comfort for your family -- special precious memories of a beautiful daughter and, best of all, a daughter waiting to greet you at the gates of Heaven. I pray that you will find a sweet peace tonight and tomorrow.

Dear Mrs. Strunk
My name is Don Cooley and my wife and I live in Pike Road, Alabama. We have followed the tragedy at your school and the loss of you precious daughter, Katie. You see, we know your pain as we lost our 28 year old daughter, Aimee in August of 2005.We saw your testimony on WSFA this morning and it touched us so much that I recorded it. Your faith is astonding, but it says exactly what we are holding on to. That there is a great and merciful God and if there was not, we would not hang around either. We have to beleive we will see our dear Aimee along with Katie in Heaven one glad day. Thank you for your faith and for expressing it through your tears and grief. God Bless you and your family.

Dear MR. & Mrs. Strunk & family
You don't know me but I heard Katie's story on Rachael Ray this morning. I heard you were members of the church of Christ there in Alabama. My husband & I are members of the church of Christ that meet in Hockinson, Washington where my husband is a deacon there. We just wanted to send you our deepest condolences on the loss of your daughter Katie. Take comfort to know that she is with her maker and that you will see her again. We have comfort in the hope of eternity where we will all be together with Christ. We will keep your familiy and those who have also lost loved ones in our prayers. Again we are sorry for your loss. Take care and may God watch over your family during this difficult time.

Dear Strunk Family,
My heart goes out to you during this time of grief. I feel for all of the families that have suffered. I saw you on the Rachael Ray show and was surprised to see that you are members of the church of Christ. I am a member at the Coldwater church of Christ in Coldwater, MS. I felt compelled to let you know that your family and the entire town are in my prayers. Losing a child is the hardest thing anyone can go through. I lost my 2 yr old son in a car wreck in Dec 2004. It is a hard, difficult road, but with faith, family and friends, it will get better. When you reunite with your sweet Katie, you will get the biggest hug you could ever imagine. That's what my mom told me when my son died and that's one thing that helps me and my husband get through. God be with your family.

Dear Strunk Family,

We are deeply sorry for your great loss. We have not the words to make you feel better, but God does (1 Thess. 4:13-18). We hurt with you (1 Cor. 12:26-27). I know we have never met, but my father is an elder where Trae Durden preaches in Fayetteville, Georgia. Try to lean on God more now than you have ever done before (1 Peter 5:7).

Dearest Strunk Family: Katie was a dear friend of mine. We were in the Junior Civic Chorale together. The last year before your family moved to Montgomery, Katie and I became really close. I remember Norris Broome calling us, "Katie and Katie". (She's the only Katie I ever met who's real name was Kathryn too) After Katie left the Chorale to move, I decided to quit. I couldn't sing without the other Katie on my side. Plus she was the only one who could keep me on key. I have lots of memories of Katie and her unfailing faith. I was so blessed to have just sung one song with her. Remember, we're going to see Katie again. And not only that, we'll get to sing in front of God with her too. I can't wait. Maybe she'll keep me on key in heaven too.

You are all in my prayers and the Fellowship of Christian Students at Isabella High School is constantly praying for you.

My family met your family at the airport in Memphis last Friday and, honestly, I've not stopped thinking about all of you since. Unbelievably, I met several people during the week at DIsney World and SeaWorld, from Alabama, who knew both you and your daughter Katie. Obviously, you are a lovely family who've been touched by a horrible tragedy. So many people are honoured to know you.

I am from La Porte Indiana and i go to La Porte High School. I do not know Katie but I have kept up to date with this story since the tornado hit. I wanted to let you know that my prayers are with your family. Also every third Thursday of each month my church holds a youth service. This month I am doing the message on reaching out and helping the community. All of the money from the offereing we are sending to Alabama to help with Enterprise High School students. I know that money will never bring your daughter back but I wanted you to know that people are thinking of you and others all over the country and are trying to help out in anyway.

Dear Kathy & Family,

Kathy, you may not remember us so well, but we certainly remember you. We are so sorry to hear about your daughter. Your dad emailed me at work today & I called Mother as soon as I read the email. We remember you so well as the tiny baby that we all loved so much. I had never held a baby as small as you! We saw a picture of Katie on one of the websites. She really favors you. We cannot imagine the grief that you must feel. Just know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To the parents and family of Katie Strunk: Our hearts and prayers are with you. As a parent who has lost a child, I can personally attest to the pain, numbness, and incredible emptiness that one feels when we loose a child. My son would be 18 years old this year, therefore seeing the ages of the young men and women you parished is very difficult. Please find some comfort in knowing that there are others out hear who have experienced similar trageties and who's hearts are hurting because of your loss! God Bless you and your families.

Sincerely Yours,

Dear Strunk Family,

You will never know the magnitude of love I have for your family. I know Katie is in a much better place where there are no more sorrows or pains. It's times like these I am thankful that we as Christians have victory over death and death is not the final answer. Coach I don't think you realize how much I and all your players look up to, love, and respect you. I know Katie took pride that she had a father on this earth as good of a man as you. Mrs. Kathy you are wonderful teacher, person, and mother, and I know Katie took pride in being your daughter. You have two beautiful children in Jana Beth and David that I'm sure they will cherish Katie's memory forever. I know in my daily encounters with Katie she was always smiling and worked hard at what she did especially when it came to band. I can't ever recall having to get on her case about anything or having to correct her at anytime. She loved being around her friends and people in general. I find myself everyday and every night thinking of yall and constantly petioning our Savior on your behalf. I love you and you are in my prayers daily.

"Our Ole Elba Tales"

March 11, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Dirk and Kathy,

We wanted to let you know how sorry we are about Katie's passing. Having recently lost my father, I know that people will say alot things that don't come out right, trying to comfort you, but it is all with good intentions. Sometimes there's nothing to say other than "I'm sorry."

Someone said something to me that really stuck with me when my father died, "you will never get over this, you will just learn to live with it." I understand the pain and despair that you feel right now and the endless flow of tears.

We all loved Katie and were blessed to have her as a part of our band at ACA. Please know that we are here for you if you ever need anything.

Dear Dirk and Kathy Strunk:
I will never forget that fateful Thursday afternoon. The memory of the two of you standing out by the bandroom looking so hard for Katie. I felt so helpless as I stood there. I stood beside you both and silently prayed that God would give you peace and strength in the mist of turmoil. I tried to offer what "little" help and assurance that I could. Only to learn later that Katie had been transformed from this life into the next. God is the only one that can give you the strength to help you through this very difficult time. We have been praying for you and will continue to do so.

I will start by saying that i am truly sorry to say that i do not know what it feels like to lose a child, but i send all condolences and sympathy to family and friends whom were very close to her or knew her. I can say that i know what it feels like to lose a loved one even though a child would be considered as a loved one but a child is someone who is apart of you and would be considered as everything you want in a child.I will keep you all in my prairs.

My heart is heavy and my family knows your pain. Losing a child and sibling is incomprehensible. The pain does get better but only with GOD'S help. Ask God for the strength and he will see you through this. You are in my daily prayers.

My niece was sitting very close to Katie and Michael. I don't know why they died and she was spared. It is with a heavy heart that I keep you in my prayers. Katie was a very special little girl. Her loving heart will be put to good use in Heaven.
