Kay Cloud Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 30, 2014.
Kind, compassionate and energetic are just three of the countless words that describe Kay Cloud.
The hard-working man, with a huge heart and big personality, was reunited with his wife Rosemary after losing a short battle with a rare cancer. He passed away Sunday, December 28, 2014 at the age of 82.
Kay was proud of his humble roots. He was born in Fresno, on his family's ranch, at the corner of Cherry and Jensen. His parents John and Arshaloos Cloud, were Armenian immigrants.
Kay graduated from Washington Union High in 1949 and attended Fresno State before joining the Air Force during the Korean War. Kay served stateside and married his adoring wife, Rosemary, in 1952 at Castle Air Force Base.
The young couple welcomed their only child Debbie in 1953 and built a home, they truly loved, in Sunnyside.
From a young age Kay looked up to his older brother Ronald. In 1946, when Ronald first opened Cloud Supply, which later became Fresno Distributing Company, Kay began working at the store. He spent 68 years at Fresno D and loved every minute of it. It was his home. Kay loved helping and working with contractors, plumbers and the public. When it came to plumbing supplies, he was an expert and his reputation was of legendary status.
Kay led an active life. He served on the board of directors of the California Armenian Home and the Armenian Community School. Kay was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Elks and the Tigers Club. Kay was a proud Armenian and was part of the Triple X Fraternity, Selma Chapter, for over 60 years.
Kay and his wife Rosemary were fabulous entertainers. They both loved life and creating memories with family and friends.
Fresno State was a huge part of Kay's life. He was a season ticket holder for football, basketball and baseball and often traveled to away games. Kay served as the President of the Time Out Club and a member of the Bulldog Foundation and the Quarterback and Dugout Clubs. Kay passed his love for the Bulldogs on to his only grandchild, Sarah Soghomonian. They would go to games together and tailgate.
Family meant the world to Kay. He was proud of the Cloud name and loved to tell stories. Kay is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rosemary; parents John and Arshaloos; and brothers Ronald and Karnig.
He is survived by his loving daughter Debbie and her husband Nishan Soghomonian; granddaughter Sarah; nephew Steve Cloud and his son's Stephen and Ryan; and cousin Evelyn Babigian.
A viewing will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 10:OOAM until 7:OOPM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Holy Trinity Armenian Church at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the California Armenian Home and Charlie Keyan Armenian School.

I remember how passionate he was about Fresno State sports. If it wasn't for his generosity we would not have our cookhouse for the Dugout Club.
When I shopped at Fresno D, with his help I knew I was getting the right items for my remodeling. We shared the same name and often laugh about it.
Kay was ONE OF A KIND!!

Hi Debbie, I don't remember not knowing your dad but I knew him as Uncle Kay. Ron went to school with my dad and Kay went to school with my moms brother and sisters at Washington Union. Your dad used to come into our grocery store on his way to your grandmothers. I used to deliver to her when she was on 10th street. Your dad would sing Sinatra and called everybody Sweetheart. He would throw produce across the bends that he had selected. He was one of the few people who was nice to me. Later I became a builder and we would visit when I was at the Dee. He and your mom would come to my houses upon completion and that would evolve into a party. One house by the golf course they ended up in an oversized shower and the party centered in the master bath. Prior to your marriage he suggested that we start dating. That's high praise from a father who loved his daughter so much. Well, maybe we should have. He was so proud of you and Sarah. I'm going to miss him terribly but talk to him often. He wouldn't have it any other way. Best to you and Sarah. He's counting on you both and I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Dear Debbie, My sincere sympathy to you and your family on the loss of your father. I always enjoyed seeing your Dad at Fresno D and shopping at the grocery store. He was always so upbeat even when facing life's challenges, and always had a smile and kind word. One day, he was shopping for just the right card to give to your Mom. I was so touched by his sentiments toward her and was inspired to know that he adored her as the love of his life. May your cherished memories give you comfort at this difficult time. With sincere sympathy, Paulette Janian Melkonian

Our condolences to the Cloud family.
We have fond memories of Kay. The Cloud family and mine (Antranikians) go way,way back when our families would visit regularly. After the Clouds lost a son, my grandmother (Antranikian), encouraged Kay's parents to try and have another child.(and succeeded).... and as Kay would say: "That child was me."
Kay will be truly missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Debbie I send my condolences and may you remember your father for all the good times you shared. I will miss him for he was like a father to me and we were friends for 8 years. I will miss his cards that he kept in touch with me on a monthly basis. He left a mark. I do know for a fact he is in heaven by receiving the Holy Spirit at the age of 12.
God Bless and may you find comfort to all those that loved your father.
