Kay Mac Millan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 23, 2015.
Kay Mac Millan, 78, of Bethlehem, PA, and formerly of Newnan, GA, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015. She was born in Atlanta, September 7, 1936, daughter of the late Frank James and Evelyn (Wilkes) Mac Millan.

After graduating from West Fulton High School in Atlanta and completing studies at an Atlanta business school, Kay began a career in office management, ultimately becoming an executive assistant at Sun Life Insurance Company. After relocating to Peachtree City with her family in 1972, she worked for High-Brand Foods and Compressed Air Products, eventually retiring from the Fairburn Methodist Church.

Kay will forever be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, her charm and charisma, her deep love of family and friends, and the abiding love she had for her precious Shih Tzus. She had a smile for everyone and could be counted on to lift one's spirits with a sweet memory or a funny quip. As a teenager, she, and her best friends Pat and Donna, enjoyed music and dancing at Mosley Park in Atlanta. Kay played basketball for her high school and later became an avid softball player in Peachtree City. She loved gardening, ceramics, reading English mysteries, vacations in Florida, and being with family. In later years, she loved keeping up with politics and current events, and she became expert at handling her ipad: sharing and caring in e-mails and on Facebook.

Kay had a special place in her heart for her son-in-law, John, who made her golden years special by keeping her joyful and happy. She will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and John Berkstresser of Bethlehem, PA; her son, Lee Herren of Canton, GA; her sister and brother-in-law, Anne M. and Edward R. Ingram of Peachtree City, GA; her sister-in-law Betty J. Wood of Suwannee, GA; her aunt, Kathleen Wilkes; her cousin, Philip L. Wilkes and wife, Sue of North Billerica, MA, her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.

Ms. Mac Millan was predeceased by her nephew, Jeffrey D. Ingram of Newnan, GA, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Ingram.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, 135 Senoia Road, Peachtree City, GA. Visitation will begin at 11 am, and the Service will begin at 1 pm. There will be a private, family interment at Westview Cemetery immediately following the service. Please call Carmichael-Hemperley at 770-631-9171 for directions or further information.

Kay was a life-long member of the church of Christ. The family is accepting contributions to a children's orphanage in India in honor of Kay. Checks may be addressed to "Peachtree City church of Christ," with the memo line reading: Kay MacMillan-India orphanage fund.

Walking our doxies will never be the same. In the nice weather, we always looked for Miss Kay as we rounded the corner. We would stop for a visit if she was sitting outside with Koko and Charlie (her beloved Shih Tsus). I know how deeply she will be missed by Lynne and John. She will also be deeply missed by everyone who knew her in our Rosemont neighborhood of Bethlehem. She brightened the day of everyone with whom she came in contact. Godspeed, Kay.

I remember riding with her and her mother in a convertible when we went to Lena Cox Elementary school in Grove Park. We had fun. I never saw her after we left high school
