GREENSBORO — Kay Oliver, 58, left this earth on December 20, 2011. She passed away unexpectedly and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Kay's wish was to be cremated. Friends are invited to celebrate her life at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Bonnie Kay's Seafood Restaurant.
Kay was born on January 27, 1953 in Guilford County. She attended Southeast High School, where she graduated in 1971. Kay was employed with Gilbarco Veder-Root for over 30 years and was looking forward to her retirement.
She was an incredibly strong individual. She had more strength than both of her sisters combined. For over 45 years, she battled several forms of cancer and always came out on the winning side often to the amazement of her medical care team. Without hesitation, she bravely did what was needed to face each illness head on. She was a marvel to her family and friends as she made the most of each day with abounding energy. We could all learn a lesson from Kay.
She is predeceased by her parents, Gus and Ann Oliver; brother-in-law, Larry Thirloway. Survivors include her sisters, Bonnie Oliver, Tina Oliver (John Maggio); nephew, David Voss, Jr., (Crystal); nieces, Deana Voss and Bailey Thirloway; two great nephews, Lucas Voss and Zachary Voss.
Kay passed away on the morning scheduled for her father's funeral. His service was cancelled and a private service for the immediate family will be held.
Donations may be made to Animal Rescue and Foster Program, PO Box 77393, Greensboro, NC 27417-7393.

Bonnie,
It has been a while since I saw Kay (maybe when Tina was at TNC). My remembrances of Kay were pleasant; she was always positive and fun to be around. My prayers are with you and your family.

To the Oliver family, thoughts and prayers on the passing of both family members. Have known and been friends with Kay for many years at (gilbarco). We would punch in at the same time and laugh and pick with each other and sometimes shed a tear or two through troubled times. She was like a little sister i never had. So to the family once again many prayers and Kay this is so long till we meet again little sis. Respectfully yours: Charles

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Kay and I were good friends in high school. Those days do not seem so long ago. I was saddened to hear the news of her passing. I know she has fought a long hard fight over the years and never complained. She was a beautiful person of incredible strength and courage. I know your hearts are broken, but let it be comforting to know that Kay is at peace. May God bless you all.

I went to school with Kay at SE Guilford and we graduated together. I remember her with beautiful long straight blonde hair and always looked like a model just stepping out of a magazine. She always had a kind word for everyone and a laugh that was enlightening. My deepest sympathy to her family, especially losing both her dad and Kay. God evidently wanted them to be together this Christmas. They shall share their first Christmas in Heaven together. "Life is not lived by each breath we take but what takes our breath away." She could take your breath away with her strength and beauty inside and out. She was one beautiful, kind and loving lady. If you knew her, you were blessed to have her in your life. I was. May God grant you all comfort and peace. Gayle

I am still just numb from hearing of Kays sudden death. we were like sisters growing up. playing in the restaurant while Gus was preparing for dinner customers. She was a beautiful person inside and out so glad we were related. I started school early because mother did not want me going without Kay.

Our hearts are so heavy for the families losses. Gus and Kay hold such special places in our hearts with precious memories to treasure. In reflection of how strong those 2 were it reminds me how strong my Granny (Janice) was too. I am proud to say that I come from the Morgan family because of the strength, determination and devotion that Granny, Gus and Kay displayed up until their lasts days. They will forever be loved and missed and our prayers go out to you all. Please let us know if you need anything at all.
Love,
Lynn and Conrad Johnson III
