Kaye McCall Harden

Kaye McCall Harden, a resident of Scottsville since 1976, died on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at the age of 81. He was born on June 11, 1940, in Jacksonville, Fla., a son of the late Hoke and Ellen Emily (McCall) Harden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Lee Harden; two brothers, Kelly, and Billy; and a sister, Jeanette.

Kaye served in the U.S. Air Force for 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded the Silver Star for shooting down a Mig 21 aircraft in aerial combat over Hanoi North Vietnam, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 11 Air Medals and 12 other medals for his service. Kaye served as the Albemarle, Charlottesville, UVA Emergency Management Coordinator for 14 years. He was a member of the Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad for 10 years where he was elected President, and later to the Board of Governors, and along with DL Bonner, designed and supervised the construction of the rescue squad building. He graduated from high school in Jacksonville, Fla., and earned three college degrees while in the Air Force…an Associate degree from the University of New Mexico, Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Colorado, and Master's degree from the University of North Colorado.

Survivors include a son, Christian Tyler Harden; daughter, Suzette Kaye Oyler; three grandchildren, Harley Vagus, Huston Oyler, and Faith Oyler; two great-grandchildren, Victor and Aurora.

The family will be receiving friends at his home from 1 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, November, 13, 2021. A private service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
