Kayla GOULART Obituary

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the family of Kayla Goulart announce her passing after a courageous two and a half year battle with cervical cancer at the age of 24 years.
She will be forever missed by her loving mother Natalia; loving father Tiberio; her mother's partner Benjamin; her grandparents Antonio, Lucia and Geraldina; and numerous relatives and dear friends.
Kayla will be cremated and her interment will take place in the spring of 2015 amongst immediate family and her closest friends. Invitations for Kayla's Celebration of Life will be sent when the date has been confirmed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Kayla's name can be made to the Grey Nuns Palliative Care – Unit 43 care of the Caritas Foundation, 3C60, 11111 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5K 0L4.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Amigo, the morning, afternoon and evening team of Unit 43 for their exceptional care and compassion. Your kindness will never be forgotten by her family as you helped make Kayla's last journey in her life comfortable and peaceful.

I went to University with Kayla and even though we only hung out a handful of times, she was somebody I could never forget. I actively read her blog posts and I send my sincerest condolences to all of her family and close friends. She was such a funny, whole-hearted down to earth girl and my heart aches that this terrible disease had to claim the life of such a beautiful person. Rest easy Kayla. Thank you for giving me the priveledge to know you.

Nearly two years ago I made the decision to travel Europe. It was the most cultural, surreal and incredible experience of my life. To top it off I had the privilege of sharing this experience with an amazing group of individuals who become very close to me! One girl in particular I will never forget. Kayla Nadine Goulart was a beautiful, hilarious and probably one of the toughest women I have ever met in my life. She partied harder than anyone, she embraced everything so completely and made everyone's experience better because of her incredible energy. After returning home we were surprised to find out that she was actually in the middle of battling cancer. It was even more shocking because we had absolutely no idea. She was so positive and upbeat throughout the trip and she kept up that mentality through her treatments. She embraced every moment as a new opportunity and never let her illness control her. After a two and a half year battle with cervical cancer Kayla passed away. She inspired me when we met and became an idol to me when I heard of her condition. She handled it with grace, courage and a beyond amazing attitude. You've forever changed me for the better, and I strive to be as wonderful as you. I'll never forget you. R.I.P. She has such a beautiful soul and loving heart. She helped me battle my cancer when I didn't know who to talk to. Having a chemo session and the fear of loosing our hair together helped with the unknown. She taught me so much about life and how to live it and to never be afraid.

Kayla was a gifted young woman, her work with vulnerable high risk youth was highly respected and there was no doubt it came from a place of compassion,strength and believing she could make difference and she certainly did. It was a privilege to have known her in the professional capacity as a Child Youth Care Counsellor at the Yellowed Youth Centre. In my last conversation with Kayla before she left to travel I let her know her position was being kept open until she let me know to close it. It was with a heavy heart that with her passing I had to make that decision.
