GREENVILLE and CORINTH - Kelly (Ashey) Arel, 51, wife of Michael Arel, passed away Feb. 12, 2010, in the loving comfort of friends and family, from colon cancer. She was born June 13, 1958, in Bangor, the youngest daughter of Leo and Kathleen (Munster) Ashey. Kelly graduated from Central High School in 1976 and attended the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Her passion in life involved her pets: favorite dog, Bear and her cat, Tubby Two. Her other passions included cooking, baking, fishing, gardening, and loving and caring for family and friends. Kelly always made sure that her friends and family came first. She is survived by her husband, Michael Arel; her son, Robert Garner; her sisters, Faith Colburn and spouse, Edwin, and Debbie Dunham and her spouse, Gary; her brother, Richard Ashey and his wife, Colleen; four stepsons, Mike, Marco, Jaymus and Jayson and their families; aunts, uncles and cousins; her niece, Beth; and nephews, Steve and Jason. Kelly would also like to remember her special friends, Greg, Kelly, Keith, Michelle, Lee, Sheryl, Amy, John, Brianna, Sally, Gerald, Mike, Jimmy, Jim, Rob, Sharon and Jim, and all those at Hannaford, Brewer. Special thanks go to Mike and Iris Wood for the love, compassion and incredible strength while caring for Kelly in her final days. They opened their hearts and home to give her the care that she needed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Kim. A celebration of her life will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Jeff's Catering, Brewer. Everyone is welcome. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Kelly gave me some of my fondest memories in high school with her personality. She always could bring a smile with her wonderful sense of humor. I am thankful I had the oppertunity to be one of her countless friends. With our sympathy Dennis and Belinda Townsend 947-4179

Though I hadn't seen Kelly for some time I'll never forget her infectious sense of humor. She was able to find humor in any situation. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Her entire family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Kelly,I can't believe that you are gone...I'll miss your constant pranks like the times you tied Bruce's coat sleeves together or stuffed his sleeves with bags so that he couldn't put on his coat...Who could forget the "pink monkey" or all the times you would laugh at me for not knowing about "sway bar links, hubs and all those other car parts". I really valued your friendship over the years and wished we had longer to be friends.Rest in peace,my friend... I hope they have Orange mints and Squirrel Nuts in Heaven... Linda Tracy (Brewer,Me.)

Kelly, Although you are no longer with us I know your spirit continues on. You have been the bearer of kind and helpful solutions. The laugh on the long hard day at work. And yes as Deb Merrill said the giver of candy as you would walk by and have a comical thing to say to brighten my day. It seems so sad to think you will no longer be here to flash that knowing smile as we talked about things but I know you are here to watch over your friends and family and guide them through this difficult time and times to come. May we all take on your kindhearted, helpful ways in our days to come as a commemeration to you and everyone you helped along the way. You'll be greatly missed.

Words alone can not even begin to express our sorrow. The loss of Kelly is so difficult to deal with. Whether it was here in the woods of Maine, out fishing or back in Boston they are too numerous to mention. To Mike and Rob may your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times.
No bond is as great as that between a husband and wife or between a mother and child. Lean on your friends for strength, and always remember how much you cared.
May you both take comfort in knowing that you now have a guardian angel to watch over you.

Kelly, we are going to miss you so much. You had the most amazing personality that will never be duplicated. The days at work went by so much faster and were more enjoyable when you were there. I will miss the candy you always supplied to us to make it through our day. Thanks for the memories. We love you and will miss you everyday.

I will always remember Kelly as an incomparably kind and strong individual with an amazing sense of humor and love of life. I remember many mornings where her presence (and distribution of orange mint lifesavers) made such a difference in my day, and I will forever be grateful for the fact that I was able to know her. My thoughts and sympathies go out to the innumerable people whose lives Kelly touched; she will be greatly missed by so many.

Kelly, so many more memories to be made and not enough time. You were a gentle spirit with a lot of love for everyone. Your selflessness is something to be admired. I will miss you very much. Even though our friendship wasn't one of years, you made an impression that will last for those years that we will not get to know each other better. I love you and you will be greatly missed by me :(
