Kelly Harris Obituary
Kelly Vernon Harris passed away on Tuesday, March 19th in Sparks, NV. Born June 15, 1968 in Seattle, WA, he moved to Reno at a young age and graduated from Sparks High School in 1986. During high school he attained the Eagle Scout Award from Troop 168. He attended Wichita State and UNR graduating with a B.A. in English in 2002. He earned a teaching credential and a M.Ed. from Sierra Nevada College. He placed 2nd at H.S. State Championships in the discus and was also skilled in the shot put. He attended college on scholarship for his athletic abilities and later shared his talents coaching. Hired in 2004 at Reed High School, he positively influenced the lives of many students, athletes, and staff; Kelly's creative writing prowess inspired one and all. Known for his sense of humor and love of the Looney Toons, he disguised himself as Daffy Duck on Halloween. Kelly's deep and abiding love for The Lord was shared with all he met. An avid sportsman and fisherman, he spent many waking hours at Pyramid Lake trying to lure the "Big One." He is survived by his beloved wife Nicole, son Lance, mother DeSales Harris, aunt Donna Gray (Wayne), uncles Gerald Harris, Gary Lewis (Judy), John Lewis (Susan). He was preceded in death by his father Vernon Harris and uncle Stan Lewis. Though he is now with his Heavenly Father, Kelly is greatly loved and will be deeply missed. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Mt. View Mortuary, 425 Stoker St., Reno, NV, 89503. In lieu of flowers the family enlists your support of the Summit Christian Church-Celebrate Recovery Program, 7075 Pyramid Hwy, Sparks, NV 89436.

Harris, I still remember when I was told. Just heard rock you like a hurricane and thought of you. You burned me and a few other students the CD. I told you, even after I got out of school in 2007 and would constantly sneak in and disrupt class, that you are my mentor. You met me at the worst part of my life and helped me escape the darkness. Still, the only story I ever finishwas in your class. You're missed Harris. Got a daffy tattoo for you. I got married and moved to California. I have a 12 year old daughter. I can only hope she meets someone to help her like you did with me. Still only write in pen.

Nicole, Lance and Family,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. Kelly put so many smiles on Sam's face and instilled a courage in him to believe in himself. This influence was seen as Sam learned to throw the discus, write short stories, but not only those tangible things, but, his heart to show up as strong and capable person. We are grateful for the time Kelly spent with Sam and know that all though he is not here in the fleshly body, he will always be in our hearts and thoughts. May God bring you peace at this time.

Mr Harris was a teacher of mine. I was extremely fond of him and cherish the close relationship we had. His humor and charisma could light up a room. I think that teachers sometimes don't realize what an impact they have on their student's life. I can say for certain that he had an impact on mine. Having been recently widowed myself, my heart walks heavily with Kelly's family in these difficult days. Praying especially for Nicole and Lance words of the Psalmist: "The pains of death surrounded me, I found trouble and sorrow. Then I called upon the name of the Lord: "O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!" Gracious is the Lord,and righteous; yes our God is merciful. "For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears and my feet from falling. I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living. (Ps. 116) Praying God's grace and comfort for all the family.
