BUCKBORO, Kelvie Andrew
May 30, 1924 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
January 30, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Kelvie Andrew Buckboro, born in Winnipeg on May 30, 1924, sadly passed away after various health battles on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the age of 93. Kel was a Navy veteran with many tales to tell and he worked as a geophysicist for the remainder of his career. Kel and his wife Christie had four children who were raised in northwest Calgary. They retired to Summerland and then to Penticton where he enjoyed golfing and going out on the boat fishing. Kel was also a Canadian champion swimmer who coached many young swimmers. He was always admired for his beautiful yard and took great passion in his home football team, the Calgary Stampeders. He was affectionately named Grumps by his first grandchild, due to his red-headed temper, and it stuck! He loved and enjoyed every moment with all his grandchildren, whether it was playing crib, tobogganing, fishing, telling stories, or teasing. He was often told that he was the one who was responsible for the big family, to which he would say "I'm sorry" in his humorous way. Kel will always be remembered by his children Sandi (John) Magnusson, Dallas (Ken) Loschuk, Deane Buckboro, Sallee (Boyd) Williams; grandchildren Kristie (Eric) Magnusson, Shauna (Mike) Weckl, Becky (Paul) Johnston, Bret (Fabby) Loschuk, Kelsey (Sam) Williams, Riley (Charmaine) Williams, Vikki Buckboro, Megan Buckboro, Brandon Buckboro, and his great-grandchildren Tamsyn, Bryony, Aidan, Lilly, Vailynn, Cohen, Dean, Reese, Ryder, and Lennon. Kelvie was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Elsie Christie in May of 2016. He was also predeceased by his parents Blaine and Christian Buckboro, brother Norm, and sister Jean Victor. Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.calgarycrematorium.com. To All of the Buckboro Family,
I was so sorry to learn of Kel's passing. Though I have not seen Kel for many years, I was happy a few years back to have a visit with Christie when she was at the Colonel Belcher. We lived across the street from the Buckboros on Cochrane Road - I recall Dean Buckboro and my brother, Fred, often playing together as little guys. May you have memories of joyful times shared with your Dad to help comfort you at this difficult time. Lee Hunt

Condolences to the Buckboro Family. My sister and I swam with the Foothills Swim Club many years ago, and our late mother Alison Agnew was secretary of the club, when Mr. Buckboro was a coach. Many fond memories.

The Dixon family are sorry to hear of Kel's passing. Kel introduced swimming to our entire family, but more importantly he taught us that hard work and perseverance equates to success. He was highly respected and the world needs more like him. R.I.P Kel my friend.
